9 Month Checkup!

Jan 22, 2008

I can't believe that it has been 9 months already.  The time has gone by so fast!!!  The past month has probably been one of the hardest ones of my life with 2 family members passing away within weeks of each other.  I am so very thankful that I have had this gift of WLS during this time.  With everything that has gone on, I would have eaten myself into a food coma in the past and gained many pounds, but with this tool for once in my life I have had control over something while dealing with a devasting situation.  I thank God everyday for it.

On to lighter things...I had my 9 month appointment with Dorothy yesterday and she was so encouraging letting me know how great I have done.

In 9 months I have...

...lost 132.4 pounds
...gone from a BMI of 57.6 to 36
...lost 30 inches off my waist and hips...55 off my entire body
...gone from a 26/28 to a 16
....lost 65% of my excess body weight

I am pretty happy with that and need to read those over and over if I ever catch myself not being happy with it!!

Here are some pics...

8 Months!

Dec 26, 2007

Not a ton to report.  The weight is still coming off...down 124 pounds.  The holidays have been a bit hard with all the sweets and salty snacks around.  I feel like I have put a lot of junk into my body and the nice thing now is that my body just doen't feel right when I do that.  I am going to do a semi-liquid thing for about a week just to try and cleanse my system.  Last year I wouldn't of had the icky feeling after eating junk and I would have just keep shoveling more and more in.  This year is so different.  Once again, I am SOOO thankful I did this.

7 Months...moving right along...

Nov 25, 2007

I hit my 7 months back on the 20th and am 111 pounds down I have been happy with the way things have been going.  The weight loss slows down a bit, but then picks back up.  The main thing I am losing is inches.  I have gone down about 5 pants sizes and can wear XXL-XL shirts.  I REALLY, REALLY need to start working out.  I know that is the biggest thing that I am lacking.

Getting through Thanksgiving was not too bad.  I just didn't really want to eat a ton which was good.  I don't have much of an appetite and have to make myself eat, BUT I have been craving sweets and salts so I have really had to watch that.

Found out that my hemaglobin was low, which I knew because I have always been anemic.  Also, that my iron saturation is low so I have to bump up the iron.  That helped explain why I am always so tired.

Well here are some 7 month pics.  I am really starting to see the difference.

6 Months and 100 pounds!!

Oct 31, 2007

Well, my 6 month anniversary date was on 10/20.  I was wanting to hit 100 so bad and I weighed on that day and sure enough I was 100 down...whoo...whooo.

I went for my 6 month checkup later that week and their scale showed a 95 pound loss, but it was in middle of the day and I was fully clothed.  So as of today I am about 104 down.

I have lost 42 inches total...12 off my hips, 12 off my waist, 6 off my chest, 2 off my arms, 6 off my thighs and 4 off my calves.  So I know that if the scale moves slow or not at all, that the inches are coming off.

My iron came back low so I have to increase the amount of iron I take.  I kind of was expecting that because it has always been an issue for me.

Well, I can tell that I am really going to step up and work even harder to keep this weight loss going.  Got to kick up the activity and follow the eating plan and stay away from snacking.  I can tell now could be a time where I could fall into some bad habits and become lazy and I WILL NOT let that happen!!

Other then that I am feeling great, no problems.  I am so glad I did this!!

5 Months

Sep 20, 2007

So as you can see I skipped month 4.  I was kind of in a funk.  The scale kind of slowed down for a while and I was convinced that I was never going to lose anymore weight.  Well, the scale starting moving and I am out of my funk.

In my 4th month things got hard.  I starting craving things I hadn't craved since surgery.  I ventured out a little bit, but didn't get to crazy.  I learned that I could still eat those things that caused me to lose control so many times before and it really scared me.  I know that I can not keep those things around.  The head games are still there and my mind still wants to play.

Month 5 has been much better.  The scale has started to move and I am really learning not to focus so much on the number, but it is VERY hard.  I am 87 pounds down and 29 inches smaller!!!  So, I am doing what I should, pressing on and going to lose more.  I thank God everyday that he made the way possible for me to have this surgery.  I would do it again.  On to month 6!

3 Month Update and Pics

Jul 22, 2007

So as of this past Friday it has been 3 months since my WLS.  I had my follow-up with the nurse Dave.  He is great by the way.  The weight loss has slow for me this month.  I only lost 9 pounds which I have really been getting down on myself about.

I think I know the reasons why:
My energy has been so low that I have not been doing much activity
I have been eating almonds at night while watching TV right out of the can...Dave told me that if I want them I need to take like 5 and go to the table, eat them and put them away.  No more almonds for me.

I need to start  focusing on the 69 pounds and 12 inches I have lost and BE HAPPY.  My blood pressure is down too!  I am so happy I did this and would do it over again.  I have really had no problems physically so far.
Until next month!!!  Here are the pics...

My Hospital Stay

Apr 23, 2007

I got home yesterday afternoon. Things are gong really well. I just have a little bit of pain and discomfort. My stomach rumbles really loud too. From what I hear, that should go away.

Friday was a great day.  I wasn't nervous at all. They were running about an hour behind.  Even though things were behind, time still went fast. I didn't get nervous until the walk to the OR room. I thought, "I wonder if anyone has ever made it this far and said decided not to do it after they got to the OR room." Things went so quickly that before I would even have a chance to run away if I wanted to, I was sleeping like a baby.

Woke up in recovery with EXTREME back pain, but not stomach pain really. I told them my back was hurting and they just kept telling me to "push the little button." By the time I got to my room I was SOOOOO doped up. But still no pain in my stomach. My nurse then told me that the morphine wouldn't really help my back pain, it was more for my stomach. No wonder my tummy didn't hurt. They put the little bright orange "falls risk" band on my arm and took the morphine pump away. They gave me other stuff that was wonderful for the back pain. So needless to say the first night wasn't the best between the pain, being sick to my stomach and extremely dopey.

Saturday was much better and Sunday morning was good too. I came home around 1:00 on Sunday.

I have to say that the Methodist staff is WONDERFUL. From the little ladies at the information desk who say "Good Morning" to Wally the cute little volunteer guy to the prep nurses to the anesthesiologists to the floor nurses. I had a wonderful experience, no complaints.
So I am off to a new start now. I did it!!!
