Help... maybe I just a little support from others!

I do not know if I am writing in the right place.... I went to my surgeon for a conceltation to had a lap band procedure and he felt the lap band probably would not work for me and should consider the gasric bypass. I am planning on the bypass now but  I will not have the surgery for another 6 mos. What terrifies me is, "What if I can't do it and after even having the surgery I gain my weight back like all the other times!!!!!! Does this mean I shouldn't have the surgery or is it do you think that is what the 6 months will help me with. I want it  to work I just so frightened I will blow it just like all the other times!
