Three Weeks Since RNY

Feb 28, 2016

Surgery was February 8.

Twenty days later, (1) my previously dangerously high blood pressure is normal, (2) I can walk 1.5 miles when I had trouble getting from my desk to my car to my chair to my bed, (3) I can climb stairs like a normal person, and (4) I have had zero gastric reflux fires.  I have lost 25 pounds since my initial consult weight, and 20 pounds since my last real weight before surgery.  This rate of weight loss is a pleasant surprise.  While I do not expect a pound a day to continue, it is sure nice.

I went back to work full time after one week.  That was hard, but I wanted to save my vacation for fun, and I was on the emails all day anyway.

Negatives?  Yes.  The first few days had painful moments when getting up.  The soft food diet is really boring.  On the few occasions when I eat half a bite extra, it hurts.  I am still on oxygen at night.  I have one surgery wound that is slow to stop oozing.  I have a back ache more days than not.  It is HARD to get enough protein in, due to feeling stuffed all the time.

Overall, however, it all seems just too good to be true.  I only wish I had done this years ago.  If anyone reads this who is wondering whether to proceed with RNY, all I have to say is that if your doctor recommends the procedure, "go for it!"
