One Month after 2nd Fill (Lapband)

Nov 11, 2010

It has been over a month after I had my 2nd fill and I can now tell what foods I can and can not eat. I was wearing a size 24 now I my size 18 are fitting loose. I do not know if I am losing too much weight too fast, however my surgeon said I am doing good.

I have not took any more pain killers nor  promethazine for nausea. I hate taking medicines to make myself feel normal and/or comfortable. When I was adjusted too tight for one full day, I was dehydrated and weak, so I was crying when the pharmacy messed up my prescription. I was vomitting every hour. I am sooooo glad that is over and adjusted.

I think that my mind is still scared to eat certain things. I can break my vitiams into 3 pieces (they are huge) but I am scared to swallow soild foods. I only eat about 1/2 an ounce a day. The rest of my meal is one protein shake and a breakfast shake.

I also like the way red wine makes my stomach feels.

I am now familiar with turning down foods, I am saving money by not eating out at resturants, I have more energy, however I have one major problem! I like to drink a lot now and I do not think my band is loose enough to drink 8 glasses of water a day. When I try, I am too full to eat anything or drink my protein shakes. When my "new" stomach is full I seem to have to spit a lot. I was taking tums but that made me constipated. Now I suck on sugar free candies and it helps me with the "foamies". For some strange reason, when I feel full (which I shouldn't when I am just drinking) I lay on my left side and you can feel and hear the liquids slowly draining in my stomach. It also relieves some gas (I belch more than a couple of times).

I do miss eating:
PIZZA, FULLY DRESSED CHEESEBURGERS, SANDWHICHES, SPAGETTI, CAKES, PANCAKES, POTATOES, WAFFLES, T BONE STEAKS, RIBS, CHICKEN ALFREDO, PASTAS and DRINKING SODAS AND BEERS AND CHAMPANGE!

2nd Fill was too tight!!

Oct 05, 2010

I had my 2nd lapband fill yesterday I was 249 pounds, when I was there I was able to drink water. but when I got home the band seemed to be too tight and I felt like I swallowed some food before chewing. Later on in the evening I began to produce a lot of saliva and foamy spit! It was nasty to expierence this. After swallowing the foamy spit a couple of times I began to vomit. I think I vomit about seven times last night, Needless to say I only got one hour of sleep!  After a couple of tears from vomiting and spitting up foam, I decided to call my doctor, Waiting for him to answer his paging phone I decided to hang up and call the hospital. When I talked to them they told me that my surgeon would have to paged into the hospital to adjust the band, because a ER doctor can not do it! Therefore, I decided to just try to "tough it out" until the morning. So I slept with a towel for my drooling, salvia, and vomit. As soon as the office opened this morning, I called to let them know that I could not keep any water down and I vomit all night. She asked me did I want to get it adjusted or did I want to wait to see if the pain and swelling will go down, it was up to me! I told her I wanted to get some fluid out because I can not keep water down. They thought I may have tired to eat some food before it was time. However, I did not! I was only trying to sip water and it was impossible. Today, I went to get "1cc" removed. I lost 5 pounds (over night) of water from my body due to vomiting and not being able to replace the fliuds my body has lost. Removing some fluid Immediately felt good and I was finally relieved! However, my stomach feels upset and irratated from all the drama I was going through last night. My doctor is prescribing me some medicine for nausea and pain (liquid of course). I hope I get some sleep tonight!!!!

My 1st FILL!!!

Aug 24, 2010

I just received my first fill of 2 cc's a week ago. I missed my original appoinment so, I had to wait 2 months after WLS to get it. Inbetween time, I researched how the fill is done. While I was "thinking" about getting WLS, I watched the videos of surgery procedures, read WLS success and failed stories of WLS patients, seen before and after pictures.

However, I never thought about the fill procedure. Therefore, when I decided to research it, it seemed to be painful. The video I watched inserted on wide needle and left it hanging in the belly, and inserted another needle to inject the saline fill. When I recieved my fill it was nothing like the video, my surgeon used the standard needle and the first needle insert I did not feel at all.

The first fill was 3 cc's it was too tight because I could not swallow a sip of water while I was in  the doctors office. My doctor could tell it was painful due to my facial expression so he decreased the fill by one cc. And needless to say, I could then swallow sips of water slowly.

When I got home, I was very thirsty due to not being able to drink or eat 4 hours prior to my appointment. Since I woke up late, I had to skip breakfast and lunch. I was sooooo thirsty I accidently gulped the water down my throat. The air that went down with it was very uncomfortable.

Later that day I had to drink more liquids, because I was told to go back on a liquid diet for 2 days after the fill. I thought the fill was too tight, because I was feeling discomfort with every sip of water. However by the third day I was able to eat soilds without any problems. I follow the instructions the lap band and my doctor gives me. I try to eat 1 oz of protein twice a day. I dice the meat into little pieces the size of an pencil earser and chew 20 - 30 times for each bite. Also, eat for 30 minitues without stopping but eating slowly.
<~~~~ NOT LIKE THIS!!!!

So far I am VERY satisfied with the decision I made, and now I notice that I was eating WAY TOO much food, in one serving. And studying to be a health care administrator has helped also, because of the HEALTH and WELLNESS course. The most important nutrients is water and protein. You can go a month without eating, but can be hospitalized or even die from dehydration in ONE DAY!!!!

. However, I do take my multi-vitiams, vitiams enriched breakfast drinks, cereal or protein bars and skim milk.

With my first fill "feeling", I believe I can achieve the wls goal my doctor has set.... 1 - 2 pounds a week!!!

What's going on.

Apr 24, 2010

I had my pre-operation lab work and clearanence appointments. I only have one more  appointment to see a doctor before the surgery. Everyone has been so nice, imformative, and understanding. I can't wait until I lose this weight I have been carrying around. It has been causing my joints to ache. Esp. since I can not longer take any medicaines, my joints are strarting to hurt. I can't type as good as I usually do. I do not think depending on pain relievers and anti-inflammatories will make my body heealthy. But I have been used to the "okay" feeling.
