Surgery in Mexico?
Jan 28, 2008
So I've been talking with Laura, also known as monikers ShrinkingLaura and Laurassotrendy about her experience in having surgery in Mexico. I think there's a stigma on this idea because when I mentioned it to a few people here in my office and my mom this horrified look overtook their usually open-minded demeanors. I explained. Surgery here in Colorado with the surgeon I was originally referred to costs $24,500. $18,500 of which goes directly to the hospital for 3 nights of hospitalization. $5000 goes to Dr. Chae, the surgeon, and $1000-$1500 goes to the anesthesiologist whom I would have to call and arrange. Then there are miscellaneous surgical assistant and nurse fees. The fees associated with having surgery in Mexico with Dr. Joya are $12,500 which includes roundtrip airfare, 4 nights in the hospital, 5 nights in a hotel/resort for recovery, and all hospital, doctor, and surgeon fees. I'm not the kind of person who typically pinches pennies in order to save a buck, but if I can get the same care in Mexico for 1/2 the price then it seems like something worth looking in to, especially since I'm a self-pay and getting loans for this has been a crazy endeavor. I'm calling Gerald at Dr. Joya's office today to ask all those pesky questions I know will be asked of me if I decide this is the route to go. If anyone has any insight into this type of thing, please message me because I'd love the advice!
