2nd fill under xray...

Aug 19, 2008

Well one week ago I finally had my second fill
I was supposed to have it July 31st, but once again Dr. Valin & Debbie both couldn't get to my port because it's tilted. It's even more tilted now. So I was rescheduled with Dr. Valin to get the fill with the help of xray, and let me tell you it was so much better and quicker!! I laid down on the huge xray bed and the nurses put the xray thing over my stomach, Dr Valin looked at my port and confirmed it's super tilted and facing down. SO anyways he was able to get the needle into the port and filled me up..then they stood me up (still on the machine *lol*) and had me drink this white stuff and they watched as it went down into my tummy. He said it looked perfect and that it was going down nice and slowly. He put in 5cc!! the reason he put in so much more is because of the fact that he was able to watch as my liquid went down and he could tell it was kinda like a perfect fill. I was loving that. Now I have about 8cc in my band, and well it only holds 11cc...so this fill should last me a long while. I have lost 4 lbs since getting my second fill...this time around my weight loss is alot slower and I need to step my game up when it comes to getting exercise!! My goal is to get under 200lbs in about 2 months...hopefully sooner. Right now i'm at 211...so time to get my butt moving .
Well time to get ready for work...i hope everyone is doing good out there!!

First fill and 39lbs down since 1st Dr's visit..

May 25, 2008

Well first let me say, YES i finally put some pics up !! Sorry it took so long..check out the before pic! I can't believe it when I compare myself to my before pics.
I was telling a friend earlier that I don't really notice it when I look at myself in the mirror sometimes, but I notice it the most in the pics I take now and my clothes.

So my first fill was very interesting to say the least. She (Dr.Valin's wife who is a APRN ) was the one who was going to do my fill, so she numbs my stomach where she is going to be accessing the port after she finds it with her hand and the ultrasound machine. After putting the needle in my stomach (didnt hurt) she says that Dr. VALIN really put it in deep in my tummy?? of course I didnt know what she was talking about and just laid there patiently waiting for it to be over and done with. Well she gave up trying to get the needle in the center of the port and told the nurse to page Dr. VALIN to come in so that he could do it himself.
Dr.VALIN came and started the process all over again...finally after a painful push he was able to get the big (YES I SAW IT) needle into the center of the port and he put 3cc into my band.
The nurse then gave me a cup of water to drink in the waiting room to make sure the band wasn't too tight. Well it took me about 15mins to get it down, and then I left. To my surprise while I was walking in the parking gargage I had the worst nausea because I felt like I had a gallon of water in my chest!! not a good feeling..so my tip to you girls/guys out there that are going to get their first fill: DRINK THAT WATER SUPER SLOW AND SUPER LITTLE SIPS :)
lol
I did 3 days of liquids/ 3 days of mushies/ and now slowly eating "regular" (not many choices right now) foods.
I didn't realize how restricted I was going to feel. This is a learning experience ...
I'll keep you posted on more later because I have to go help my 5 year old .
take care!! and comment please!!

First fill coming up....

May 14, 2008

Hey everyone, I know it's been tooooo long since i last posted an update so here goes

Since my first ever appt with Dr. Valin I have lost: 34lbs!!!!!
Since my surgery I have now lost: 22 of those pounds!

I still hate my stomach but will patiently wait for it to keep going down *lol*

I'm pretty much eating regular Healthy foods...I can't eat Bread for the life of me which sucks but it helps the weight loss!! i don't know why but the 2 times that I tried , i had the worst stomach ache ever..so who knows when I'll try that again. And so i haven't eaten rice because I'm thinking I might have the same reaction so I'll wait!!
Special K "protein plus" is my new love..it is sooooo yummy, I eat it with Soy milk!! try it if you haven't already!!

Tomorrow I go for my first fill @ 9:15a..I can't wait, i'm a little nervous but i'm sure i'll be fine.
I'm wondering how long do I have to be on liquids for? I gotta remember to ask.

Anyways I'll be posting soon to let you know How my first fill went!!

2 weeks post op...

Apr 08, 2008

Hi !! As of yesterday I am officially 2 weeks post-op. I am now on stage 4 (mushy/pureed foods). I'm soooo happy to be off of the liquid stage. I have lost 14lbs since surgery and haven't lost anything in the past week , which sucks but I just have to stay positive because I know I have to put in work to start dropping more. I'm walking everyday and I am going to start walking 2-3 times a day to really push myself. We have a fitness room in our clubhouse and I really need to go in there, i'll probably start today .  It's not easy getting my @ss out of the house, but my music/ipod helps with the motivation *lol*

This mushy stage is not bad, the only thing is I get full so quick I end up picking at the rest of my 2 oz for what seems like forever. I guess it could be worse , i should just be happy that the 2oz is still keeping me full. It is harder to drink my fluids now, since it gets tricky not drinking after my meal for an hour before or after?? I'm trying my best but I think I need to start planning out my meals/drinks for the day because I'm getting confused. is it just me? i doubt it.
So I can't wait to start losing more weight and I can't wait to get my first fill because I know that it'll help. I'm calling the dr's office this week to see when my next appt. will be....

until next time!! take care --YPR

Post op Day 5.

Mar 29, 2008

Things are getter better!! :)
This morning I had my sf carnation instant breakfast (1/4 cup) and then drank water...well big mistake , because i had what felt like a knot in my chest for like 3 hours!! not good!! so i've realized that after i have my "full protein liquid meal" I need to wait before trying to drink anything else, which is hard for me because I love water. So I had the best tasting soup broth from my dad's spanish chicken soup...and it made me feel sooooo good. It's funny how Home cooked soup can make me feel so good. So I waited my hour and sipped on Dunkin Coffee (with skim milk and equal) for the first time since surgery...i was only able to drink like 2oz but it was delicious :)
My Gas pains are soooo much better as long as I keep taking my "Simethicone 80mg chewable tablets" that my surgeon prescribed. I take 1 every 8hours as needed and they work!!
Since surgery on monday , I have lost 10lbs which is great considering how hard this has been..the worst part is seeing all the yummy food commercials *lol*

till next time

day 1 post op....ugh the pain.

Mar 25, 2008

So i'm in pain right now, the gas pain is the worst and then one of my incisions is draining and has been draining since the hospital..the dr didnt want to stitch it up since he had used the "glue" on it along with the other incisions, so thats one more thing I have to worry about .

yesterday I was banded and everything went great until i woke up from the surgery with terrible pain!! i didn't realize how much this was going to hurt, don't get me wrong i know it's worth it. The gas pains I had were CRAZY, i thought they would never go away and last night they slowly started getting better. I'm still with pain and sore but everyday will be a better day. Tomorrow i start my stage 3 diet: protein shakes, broth, egg drop soup, non caloric fluids, and coffee if I can tolerate it!!! yeah!!
I know this stage is going to be hard, because i'm already looking forward to being able to eat some mushy foods..like scrambled eggs..yummmy....

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes!! i made it!!

nervous!! but ready to get this show on the road...

Mar 23, 2008

Right now it's 10:06p and i'm soooo nervous. I'm going to bed soon and hopefully i'll be able to sleep. Today at 3pm i took my fleet phosophate(sp?) and started my "liquid" only stage...but let me tell ya, i've been in the bathroom so many times i'm not drinking anything but a few sips of water. That fleet stuff was disgusting , i can't believe i had to drink the whole 2oz?? well let me put it this way: i got to a point where i was just chillin on my toilet playing brick breaker on my blackberry . *lol*
Not cute...So now my stomach is in knots and not feeling too happy with that fleet stuff in it!

I know it's all worth it and I can't wait to get this over with so i could start my new healthy life!! yeah!!
So tomorrow at 7am i will be at the hospital ready to go!! my parents and my boyfriend will be there with me and will be waiting for me when i'm done. I'm lucky to have support for my family and from my new "oh" friends.

Upper Endoscopy aka Upper GI Test

Mar 20, 2008

Ok so it wasnt as bad as I Imagined. The spray was bad but not terrible, I mean who likes anything sprayed in their throats that tastes like Robutussin (SP?!?) just 10x worse

I'm so glad they sedated me because I was about to start freaking out when they had the oxygen in my nose and the mouth thingy which you have to bite on to protect your teeth...I started coughing and the next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room!! Gotta love meds *lol*

Well tomorrow is my last appt before my surgery, i'm meeting with my surgeon to go over everything one last time.
