Question:
When can I go back to school after Lap RNY?

I am a full time college student and I only have a two winter break due to the olymipics coming out. I have exactly one week between my surgery and when school starts. Will this be enough time for me to recover. I'm going to inform teachers of my surgery so if I miss class. It's my last semester I need and I don't want to wait until next fall to take the classes. Can anyone tell me if a week recovery will be enough time to be able to sit in class?    — Charity C. (posted on November 19, 2001)

If you are having the LAP procedure a week should be ample time for you to be able to go and sit in classes. You will be slow and probably tired, but as long as you don't carry to many books you should do alright.

I too am a college student taking a full load. I had my surgery on 11/6/01 and I went back to school the following Tuesday, I felt tired and a little weak that first day, but the next day I felt better all together and was glad I decided to go back. Don't wait, the sooner you get to moving back into your "regular" routine the better you will feel. Good luck!!

I had Lap RNY and went back to work full time 9 days later. I could have gone back even sooner. You tire more easily but that's just about it (for me anyway). Good luck!
