Question:
I ate fat free bologna...

Last night around 6 p I ate 2 slices of fat free bologna. Dinner about 2 hours later was 3 oz chicken thigh( never had problem with either of these before) I woke at 3 AM and started vomiting all I had eaten so many hours ago. Until this point i have never vomited or had nausea or dumping Im post RNY 8/8/01. I realize I had forgotten to peel the skins off the bologna, any thoughts on if this could have caused the vomiting? and why so many hours later? and damn if my pouch is so small where did all that sit.. I didnt feel bad after eating at all. Any input would be appreciated thanks    — Sue T. (posted on November 20, 2001)

If I had a dollar for every hour I sat around post-op trying to figure out what it was that make me sick THIS time, I would be a very rich woman now. Sometimes you just can't figure it out. A food which is fine for months will suddenly cause problems. This lasted for me through the tenth month, and then, magically, I stopped getting sick and could eat reasonably normally (as long as I avoid sugar, fat, bread, etc.,). I do have some theories...which have never been verified by medical staff...but I now believe absolutely to be true, at least for me. Whenever I get the slightest bit of a cold or a flu, any kind of little bug, it seems that my new tummy is the first thing affected. I throw up, or at least have a lot of trouble eating pretty much anything at all. This still happens at 16 months post op...in fact, I have a little cold right now and haven't been able to eat hardly anything (thank goodness for protein supplements, they always go down) for several days. In your recent example, my prime suspect would be the bologne. Bologne is very high in animal fat...which would make me sick. Even if you didn't eat the skin. Isn't the skin cellophane? That could be a problem....
