Question:
How do I break my plateau? I'm 6 weeks post-op, 3 weeks into this plateau.

I didn't expect to hit a plateau this early and I am feeling like this surgery was all for nothing. What can I do to get losing again?    — Janice P. (posted on February 18, 2002)

Welcome to the club. I am just over 8 weeks Post op, and have been plateauing since week 4. I have just broken it, and lost 5 pounds. I am down 60 pounds in just over 8 weeks. I too felt as if I was somehow failing at this, but have been assured by others I am doing great, and so are you!

Janice: I hear ya! I just lost 5 lbs after only losing one lb a week the past three weeks. I didn't think my weiht loss would slow down that fast either. I have lost 59 lbs. since surgery on Nov. 8th, which I am thrilled about. I guess patience is really the key. You will lose again!

i hit a plateau at 4 weeks & then again at 7 weeks. i was feeling discouraged at the first one but my darling angel, ANNIE COURCHANE, told me to measure myself. WOW WOW WOW! i had lost a total of over 12 inches in the 4 weeks. which weeks were they? who knows! but, now i think of plateaus as a chance for the fat to re-distribute itself & for my body size to catch up to itself in weight. the second plateau saw me lose over 17 inches. my total inches lost so far is over 41...9 weeks post op. when i plateau i increase my calorie & carbs intake for that week. if i lost weight on my next weigh day, i cut them back again. so my recommendation to u is...measure urself when u plateau. those numbers sure make up for the lack of numbers showing on the scale.

I hit my first plateau at 6 weeks. My doctor told me that I was not eating enough. I started eating more and started losing weight again. Be sure to drink plenty of water. I had my surgery in October and am on my third plateau. It is hard to eat when you are not hungry.

I had the same plateau and am now at goal :) Take your measurements. I'll bet you are losing inches. I went down 2 sizes overnight when I broke my plateau. Keep eating and drinking your water so your body knows you are not starving. You WILL lose more weight! Good luck and happy losing!

Throw away your scale. I hit a plateau at week three and gained 8 pounds then finally dropped it at week 9! I was going mental. After being pissed off and then depressed I finally just decided I would lose it when I lost it and hid my scale. I now weigh once a week or less and my sanity has returned. I am down 56 in 14 weeks not spectacular but I'll take it cause that's apparantly all my body can do. Good luck and try to go easy on yourself.
