Question:
How long does it take to start losing & about how much can I expect lost the first mo

I am now 6 days post-op & am all ready getting antsy about losing weight. That is not good!!! I was just wondering when you started to lose the weight & how much I should expect to lose in the first month. Thanks!    — Allison T. (posted on April 15, 2002)

Being that you are about 1 week out, you may still be full of liquids from all the IV's. Some people actually gain while in the hospital because of fluid retention. But it will usually start coming off rather quickly. I am 6 weeks post op. I didn't get a final weigh-in, but about 2 weeks pre-op I weighed 436. (I may have lost a little the last 2 weeks though). 1.5weeks post-op 414, down 22 2.5 weeks 408, down 6 (28 total) 4. weeks 400, down 8 (36 total) 6 weeks 388, down 12 (48 total) I am feeling pretty good, but have a lot to still loose. Everybody may loose at different rates. The heavier you are, the faster you loose. Men typically loose faster than women. And other factors, but starting that 2nd-3rd week, you should start to notice a difference.

I'm 5 weeks today and I'm down 37lbs. I gain 30 lbs while in the hospital. started at 333lbs went to hospital and came home weighing 365lbs on day 9 I weighed 321lbs, 12 lbs down. On day 18 I weighed 304lbs, down 29lbs. day 22 I weighed 299lbs, down 34lbs. then I went on a 2 week plateau the scale didn't budge. a couple days ago I lost 3 more lbs weighing 296lbs for a total of 37lbs. I hope it keeps moving that plateau was brutal.
