Question:
For Post-Ops 2+ Years Out: Meal Plans

I would like to know what other post-ops this far out eat. How much do you eat at a time, do you still include protein supplements, what foods do you choose for your meals. How much water do you drink? How often do you exercise? Also, are you at goal this far out? I would still like to lose 25 more pounds.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on May 30, 2002)

Hi, Denise. I'm only 15 months post-op, but I thought I'd answer your question anyway. Right now, I take a multi-vitamin and a calcium supplement daily but no protein supplements anymore. I get in plenty of protein through my regular food now. I generally have a scrambled egg and one piece of toast for B-fast, a Lean Cuisine and vegees for lunch, tuna and crackers for an afternoon snack and 4 oz. of meat plus vegees/fruit for dinner. I try to avoid grazing and try to stay under 1500 calories/day. I have lost 180 lbs. so far and have 36.5 to go. Hope this info. helps.

8 yrs in Oct. Still at goal. I still use protein supps made with water, 4-6 per day. I still drink water, but I have to use tricks to get "enough" water. I never did exercise until recently. I am doing it NOW to deal with the osteoporosis and hey, I could always look better, right? My meals for yesterday: 1 protein bar (I count it as a meal, not as protein) for bfast. Lunch was salad (I was trapped in the hospital with someone doing tests). Snack was in the car, so a handful of crackers. Dinner was at Skipper's, which is fish. Mine was non-dairy clam chowder (I eat around the clams), a little salmon (I know, I know, but my annual OZ is OK) and cole slaw. Yesterday was a LONG day, so I got 8 proteins in. And barely 64 oz of water.

I am 25 months out and I eat almost anything. I have a problem with hamburgers and fries from Restaurants so I stay away from them. I still eat from a one cup bowl. I try to eat healthy snacks like peanut butter and crackers. For breakfast I drink my protein drink by 10:00 I have some fruit. Although I have my water at my desk daily I would drink about one liter at work. At lunch time I try to eat the left over I had the dinner before if any if not I eat lean cuisine or a buddy chicken or turkey meat sandwich. For dinner if I am hungry usually not I eat some peanut butter crackers or if I decide to cook I try to eat chicken breast vegetables and potatoes. I hate to cook like that because I can only eat about three bites and then I am finished. But I do eat a lot of popcorn as a late night snack. Of course I try to get my water in between that I am not good at doing that. I don't drink sodas. I try to walk daily at least 1-2 miles. I feel I am at my goal weight of 177lbs because I am healthy. I am 5'9 with big bones. If I lose so be it, if not so be it. I am healthy and happy.

OK, today's food: morning: A large mocha coffee drink w/ sugar free syrup & about 21/2 cups of milk; lunch: about 4 ounces of cold barbequed pork rib & about 1/2 cup cold baked beans; snack: celery, carrots, sugar snap peas w/ veggie dip; dinner: lasagna (maybe 4 0r 5 ounces), green salad, garlic bread (small), a piece of chocolate cake; snack: about 6 green olives. I don't count my calories or proteins anymore, but I can estimate fairly closely & this was probably just over 60 grams protein. I drank about 50 ounces of water, but will drink another 10 before bed. I haven't exercised since I broke my leg skiing in February, but plan to get back on it SOON- like next week. The amount I can eat now varies from as little as 4 or 5 ounces to 11/2 cups, maybe more depending on how dense & "firm" the food is. I often have a protein bar in place of one meal, but have not done liquid supps for a pretty long time. I am due for my labs now & will find out if I am still doing fine like I was 6 months ago. I am 10 pounds over my goal weight of 165. But, I (like a previous poster) am 5'9, large boned & at 176 pounds, feel I am very happy with my weight. If I lose a few more pounds, fine, if not, fine. I didn't think I would EVER see size 11 jeans! I had a TT 7 weeks ago & lost about 10 pounds in the process. I had been weighing around 185. I like 175 better, tho. I have maintained my weight of 175 to 185 for just about one year. I eat mostly whatever I want to, but can tell that if I just let it go I could gain weight back so I do have to keep an eye on it & I weigh OFTEN to keep track.
