Question:
Has anyone had a hard time getting back into the swing of things post-op?
I having a hard time. I am a little over 2 months post-op lap RNY. I am having the worst time with nausea & being sick. I've talked to my Dr. about this & he did give me a prescription for it but it doesn't always help. Being sick and/or nauseated causes me not to do some things that I need to do. For example, I am currently in school. I have missed so many classed because of the surgery/recovery time itself & now with the being sick/nauseated thing all the time I've missed even more. The professors are being understanding to this point but I am afraid that they will not be so understanding soon. Am I just being a baby? Why is being sick all of the time from this surgery effecting my life? I didn't think it would be like this. I don't regret having the surgery because I've gained so many benefits from this. I just wish it wouldn't effect me negatively like this. I'm in jeopardy of not being able to finish out school on time because I've missed so much. Which is so disappointing to me & my parents will never understand that. Has anyone else had an experience where this has effected their life like this? What can I do about this? — Allison T. Hello: I had the same problem and I finally took over the counter
Dramamine( NON DROWSEY FORMULA ) and it calmed my new tummy RIGHT
DOWN.....I worked my way to only taking a 1/2 of a tablet after about a
week or two.....the tablets are VERY SMALL.....my dr said it was fine
because it dissolved so very fast.....good luck

Hi Allison...I've basically been "in hell" for the past 7 weeks
(I'm 7 weeks post-op)...the nausea, the tiredness, the not being able to
drink, things backing up my esophagus. Now I need an upper GI done and
have to wait until July for that. If I need an endoscopy if they find I
have a stricture, I'm sure that'll be another month or so wait. I don't
think you're being a baby. Some of us have problems post-op, some of us
don't. I want to start school in August but frankly I don't think I can
handle the schedule because I feel ill a lot. I know how you feel.
Allison, all I can say is to "keep on keepin' on"...that's all
anyone can expect you to do. And don't feel guilty or beat yourself up
about it. You can't help it if you're sick. Just know that not everyone
who has WLS recovers in record time. There are a lot of us (and I think a
LOT that DON'T post) that feel sick every single day. Hugs, Joy
