Question:
Has anyone else only lost this much?

Hi everyone! I had Lap RNY on 4/29/02 (about 5 1/2 months Post-op). I have only lost 45 pounds (I started at 243 & currently weigh 197)I was on a plateau for about 5-6 weeks & just started losing again, however I'm terrified that I am not going to lose down to my personal goal of 150 lbs, let alone the goal that medical charts say of 138 lbs. I eat 60-65 grams of protein a day, about 1000-1200 calories, and exercise for an hour 5 days a week. I guess my question is has anyone only lost 45-50 pounds by their six month mark & still gone on to lose to their goal weight? I see my surgeon this month for my six month check up & I'm scared she's going to tell me I'm a failure!!!    — Binxalways (posted on October 6, 2002)

First of all, hang in there. I too read this website and read how people have "only" lost 80 pounds in 4 months. UGH! I know its hard and sometimes I need to get away from this site, as wonderful as it is. We tend to compare ourselves to everyone else and it only will frustrate us. Lets do the math. If you are eating 1000-1200 calories a day and 60-65 grams of it is coming from protein, that means that only roughly 30% of your intake is coming from protein and 70% is coming from carbs and fats, which is probably too high. (65 grams of protein = 325 calories). I have experimented on www.fitday.com and have finally found out what works for me. I am eating 1000 calories a day with no more than 25% coming from carbs and 30% from fat. Once I figured this out, I broke a 10 day plateau. Check out www.fitday.com to track your protein, carb and fat grams and calories. Its been a great tool. Good luck..and hang in there as I said. I am also a slower loser. You are not the only one.

There are only 4 calories per gram of protein, so 65 g of protein would be 260 calories, not 325 as the previous poster states (carbs are also 4 cal/gram; fats are 9 cal/gram)...JR (open RNY 07/17 -84 lbs)

My surgeon said no more than 800 calories per day. The protein sounds in the range, and he said I should never have more than 20 grams of fat per day. If your calorie count is that high, you're probably getting a lot of carbs in there and carbs burn slowly.

I had surgery 4/23/02. Started at 246 5'5" and I have lost 55 pounds. From reading the other post it seems like we are right on schedule. Some lose faster but it seems to me the majority of the people in this range lose at about the rate that we have been losing. I have not lost any weight in the last 3 weeks but it has been my own fault. Started back today with the food diary and just generally watching what I eat. I may not be able to eat much but if I eat the wrong things I can easily get down 1500 to 2000 calories a day. I have the same question about getting to goal, I would love to know that I am going to make it to 145-150 range.
