Question:
What would you eat RIGHT NOW?

Hi all. I have a silly question to ask. This is not going to be an educating question at all, but rather a "wish" kind of question :). Right now, if you could eat or drink ANYTHING at all that you wanted, and you could actually chew it up, swallow it, savor it, chug it, be a pig, WHATEVER, what would the food(s) be? Let's pretend you haven't had WLS and can have ANYTHING. For me, it would be an icy-cold Mt. Dew and a great big Whopper, bun and all, with extra pickles! And then some Oreos with milk. And maybe a Mars bar... :) I used to be such a not-healthy eater LOL. So, tell us all your food fantasy :)!    — SuzAnne S. (posted on February 7, 2003)

Let's say we get a whole day to eat whatever we want. I wouldn't want it all in one meal lol. Anyway, I would have to say that I would LOVE donuts with milk and a cup of coffee. I would also thoroughly enjoy a big bowl of pasta with cream sauce and bread. Don't forget a nice big margarita (or several...)

A box of Krispy Kremes A huge plate of spaghetti (I eat it now, just not much!) A Jet's pizza A REAL chocolate milkshake A Whopper with cheese

February 7, 2003
I would go to my favorite mexican restaraunt and fill up on chips and hot sauce mmmm.....and then finish up my full plate of enchiladas, rice and beans. Of course, several corn tortillas with butter and polish it all off with a sopapilla covered in cinnamon, sugar, butter and honey. Boy oh boy, those were the days.
   — Toni T.

February 7, 2003
Oh Man! I would have the Krispy Kremes too, with ice cold milk. A big BBQ sandwich with crinkly fries and lemon pie. And several candy bars. Sweet tea. Chicken and dumplings from Cracker Barrel. There are just so many things. Red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. I better stop before I explode! LOL! SanDee

I kept meaning before Surgery to have a Hot Fudge Sundae from Baskin Robbins, and I never did. So thats the one thing I crave for EVERYDAY!
   — Tambi B.

February 7, 2003
FIRST I WOULD START WITH BREAKFAST---- EGGS,BACON,SAUSAGE GRAVY WITH BISCUITS. ORANGE JUICE AND HOT CHOCOLATE. THEN I WOULD GO TO LUNCH---- MCDONALD'S BIG MAC, SUPER SIZE FRIES, SUPER SIZE DR PEPPER. HOT FUDGE SUNDIE THEN I WOULD GO TO DINNER---- STEAK (LARGE ONE), BAKED POTATO WITH BUTTER,SOUR CREAM AND CHIVES, MAYBE A SALAD. THEN OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PIECE OF CAKE OR ICE CREAM TO ROUND (LITERALLY) OFF THE DAY. I CAN'T STAND HAVE OF THESE THINGS NOW BUT GOODNESS DID THEY TASTE GOOD BEFORE.

February 7, 2003
Hmmmm this is a good question. Frankly I can't think of one thing that I would inhale, but, if I could just go and eat a Mcdonalds Cheesburger kids meal with the small fries..I think I would be in heaven! I have to say I don't miss sugar at all, but a nice piece of chocolate cake with COLD milk wouldn't be bad to end the day! lol
   — EMN

February 7, 2003
Well I don't really "crave" these things anymore because if I ate them it would make me sick...BUT if I could!! I would have a HUGE plate of spaghetti with big chunks of meat in it, and big pieces of garlic bread to dip in the sauce. That seems to be the big thing I think about alot, I miss making spaghetti then just pigging out and not being able to move for like an hour. dang, that's depressing

If I could eat anything I wanted for a day, I would have sausage and pancakes (loaded with butter and syrup) for breakfast. I would have orange juice to drink (can't tolerate it now). Sometime during the morning I would stop at my favorite coffee house and have an English toffee cappuccino, full fat, full sugar and a couple of pirouette cookies. For lunch I would go to Mark Pi's and have a full plate of General Tso's chicken with eggrolls, crab rangoon, lo mein noodles, and fortune cookies. I would wash that down with a giant Diet Coke (can't handle all that fizz now). For an afternoon snack I would have to hit the sweets. Maybe a Heath candy bar or some warm Krispy Kremes with milk. For dinner I would go to the Texas Roadhouse and have a giant ribeye, salad, baked potato with butter and sour cream, a whole basket of those rolls with the cinammon butter, sweet tea to drink and strawberry cheescake for dessert. Later that night I would curl up in front of the television with a couple of flaky, buttery croissants or a bag of Dorito's (don't let myself do that anymore either). Now mind you, I'm not sure if I could have eaten all that in one day pre-op without being miserable. Thanks for letting me get that out of my system though! :)

great question! i am one year out and i have had a couple of times now where i really missed eating something. my thing is a huge portion of anything. living in las vegas, i could really pork out on the buffets. actually, now i still love the buffets because i can have a small bite of alot of different things. but anyway, i would go for a huge big mac, fries and a choc shake. i too, didnt get that right before surgery like i had planned. ate everything else in sight though. just didnt have time to fit that in at the last minute:) i also love sweets, could eat a half a cake with milk at one sitting. also drank milk by the gallons. it is fun to "remember when" but it is even funner to look at my slimmer body now. sure i miss those large portions but i dont miss being morbidly obese and very sick. but it is a kick to talk about it!

OK...thats easy.....a Jack-in-the-Box bacon bacon cheeseburger and a Large chocolate shake. I had my surgery on Oct 16, 2001 and not even a taste of chocolate shake has passed thru these lips!! LOL MMMMMMMMMMMM But the old saying is corect...."Nothing tastes as good as thin feels". I am now 16 months post op and 15 pounds UNDER goal. I am 5'7" and weigh 120 pounds!!! I LOVE IT!!!

Hi all. I'm the original poster and have just thought of what I would most love to eat if I could. I want Olive Garden salad! I want to eat salad until I pop! I could also go for the breadsticks (at Olive Garden, but especially at Fazzoli's). Hmmm, plus I think I would want some Canneloni al Fiorno and, of course, about half a gallon of super cold Mt. Dew. Actually, some of those chocolate-frosted chocolate doughnuts you can get at 7-11 sound pretty good too... Better bring some super cold milk to wash those down with! LOL Isn't if funny how we all love losing weight, but I would bet that we'd all take a "pig out day" if we could! Well, maybe it's just me... :)

I should have not read this question before lunch.....lol... I would have a huge bag of lays pototoe chips, with a 2 ltr. of diet coke,,, every day if i could. I whopper with cheese, still want ones of those, regular ice cream, Larosa's pizza. I would go up to every drive thru window or a week and order all of my regular goodies... boy do i miss drive up windows and fast food. And on the candy issue,,, sweet tarts, red licorce, clark bars, M&M... that's all for now,,, I am now drolling....

I've been wanting a hot fudge malt from Dairy Queen and then I'd love a big messy gooy brownie with the fugdy icing on top. I think about this a lot. Found out yesterday DQ makes a SF dilly bar. I couldn't finish it all, but it sure hit the spot!

Intriguing - but dangerous - question! I think I would rather be able to walk into my favorite clothing store and pick out whatever I want, rather than eat whatever I want (though I pretty much do anyway.) Having said this, sweets (esp. homemade choc chip cookies) were my big pre-op downfall, but now my tastes have shifted to the salty/crunchy variety...I have to watch out for those potato chip demons! Guess this isn't really answering your question, but I am bored at work, so what the hey...

February 7, 2003
For breakfast 2 Krispy Kreme doughnuts, 1 maple-glazed, 1 chocolate iced cream filled. Olive Garden-big salad, lots of bread sticks, whole plate of chicken pesto ravioli and did the bread sticks in the pesto sauce..... OH HOW YUMMY. Then later on a hot fudge cake with extra hot fudge from Big Boys.

Hi. I'm a recovering alcoholic active in Alcoholics Anonymous. I am also pre-op. I consider my MO to also be a disease that I am unable to control. In my 12 step program I am really careful not to do something we call "romance the disease", which means to think back on all the good times I had while drinking. I try to remember how I became an alcoholic based on all the times that I actually got drunk. I'm going to try to do this with my food addiction once I am post-op and starving for junk food. Is this going to be helpful to me when I get to the point where I am romancing my food disease?

i am on liquid right now for another 4 weeks and i would really like anything that isnt liquid. I would like shrimp, a grilled chicken salad, greenbeans (my favorite veggie in the world, i can eat them cold out of the can) chili, speghetti, baked potato with butter, salt and pepper, fahita, anything really. I cant wait to graduate to soft foods for real! scrambled eggs! bring them on!

You know, I have glanced over all the answers and I honestly have to say I have pretty much eaten all this stuff post op. Sure- I don't get to eat "large" portion, but I have tried it all. My wish would be to have a larger portion of seafood fettucini alfredo without falling asleep- and not concentrating solely on the seafood FIRST, but to have liberal amounts of pasta.. then of course some french bread for dippiing and a green antipasta salad with italian dressing, all the while sipping a REGULAR COKE- once again, all stuff I currently have, but never a portion designed larger than for a hamster. Still, I would never trade what I have sacrificed to revert back to pre-op. Never!

omg, you just made my mouth water, I would eat a california in & out double cheese burger, with no souce no onions...I can eat one patty thats it with nothing else. lol its NOT the same as eating the real juicy deal when they have all the fixings...and i would love to drink a soda with caffiene but I actually gave up caffiene long before wls, but i still have cravings........YUMMY! owe well its better on the waste to just dream about it!

Oh-my-gosh! Reading all of these posts makes me want to throw up. Some of you sure could put away the food before your surgery, either that or it really is a dream. The only thing that I miss a little bit is Mazatlon's Arroz con Polio. Other than that, I don't miss anything and I can live without it. My hands are washed! :~) 295/198

Oh my, I don't think I've ever had "Rice with Polio" before! LOL. I agree somewhat with the poster that spoke about "Romancing the Disease." I know this ? is supposed to be toungue and cheek and in fun, but it probably isn't a good idea to dredge up all our old food adictions. (And please know, poster, that I am NOT being critical at all...as I said before, it's also an intriguing ?) All I know is that I much prefer the feeling of being the one in control around food, instead of vice versa...(Now, why in the heck did I just devour that HUGE chocolate chip muffin? It's this ?'s fault, ha ha!)

February 7, 2003
BTW poster previous to me...You weren't able to pack it away pre op?

February 7, 2003
For breakfast- I would have a stack of IHOP's buttermilk pancakes covered in blueberry syrup with bacon, sausage and a cheese omlette, OJ to drink. For lunch- I would go to Micky D's for a Big Mac, a Big & Tastey{x-tra cheese on both}, large fries, Coke to drink. For dinner- I would go to Mario & Luigi's for a huge plate of veal parmigiana with linguine {x-tra parmesan cheese}, garlic bread with that nice little plate of olive oil & freshly ground black pepper-salt to taste}, and a nice glass of Chardonnay! My tastes have changed a lot and most of those things I don't crave anymore, except the cheese and the wine.

February 7, 2003
Wow the condescending people on these message boards(a few of the previous posters). I am a little over 5 months out and honestly the only thing I wish I could eat is broccoli and brussel sprouts. Yeah I know I am strange, but I have always loved them and now I can't tolerate(doc says probably strong taste etc...). Any way I know that is not something most people think of "pigging out on". GREAT question! Too bad I can't eat the answers lol. I would have big juicy hamburgers, fries with lots of mayo and ketchup, huge vats of coca-cola, donuts, BROWNIES, lots and lots of milk, a bucket of KFC original, and a handful of candy bars. Then on to lunch and dinner... ;)

I dont remember ever seeing so many responses to a question! I am still pre-op so if any of you want to me to eat anything for you and describe it while I do just let me know! ha ha! But even with all the yummy foods you've all given up I'm sure its worth it! I cant wait to be a looser like you guys! Lindsay Fulmer
   — Lindsay F.

February 7, 2003
I would have a gigantic plate or two of spaghetti and meatballs, I havent been able to eat them since WLS, it hurts to much going down and has made me get sick. For desert I would have tons of ice cream, I used to be an ice cream aholica.
   — Amy Hoffman

February 7, 2003
It's funny which questions always seem to get the most response!! I'm pre-op but you all are already making me crave a Coke!!!! I just need to get to the store. Sorry all!! I'll be with you soon enough and am counting down the days!!!! That would be 42 of them days to be exact. WOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck on your journey and happy salivating!!!

I'm having surgery in 3 days...I had not expected it to be until later this month or March. Orders for Girl Scout cookies are being taken and I thought since they would be delivered March 1st I would order and eat them quickly...then I got my surgery date and knew there was no cookies for me this year. Then people in my office starting talking about this special ice cream that comes in Girl Scout cookie flavors like Caramel Delight. ***must fight craving***

February 7, 2003
Well, YEAH, we sure ate a heck of a lot. Just might explain why we have had the WLS. ;) Self control and portion control sure weren't words in MY vocabulary. This was a fun question. I see they held it over. ;) Let's see, what do I miss MOST? I guess red meat....steak! Still does not taste good to me. Since I have been on general diet, I have tried EVERYTHING and either it just does not do the trick anymore, or such a tiny bit of it is satisfying enough now. I do know I don't LUST over anything any longer because I have tried it all and know I can have whatever I want in SMALL portions. This is so new to me. I used to consume HUGE portions. I am not a snacker (who would have room after my HUGE consumption)and actually I loved all the 'good for you' foods...just TONS of them. Sometimes I will watch my family eat desert and want some. I find after just two small bites..okay maybe three...I am totally satisfied. (Open RNY 10/30/02 -95lbs)

February 7, 2003
Well I have to agree with an earlier poster.. I pretty well eat anything I want (LOTS of sweets).. I eat a little pasta or bread in small amounts but it's the sweets that I have every day. I guess one thing I loved pre op that I have TOTALLY given up is Coke. I loved Coke so much, but won't drink it now. To the recovering alcoholic who is pre op.. would you please email me? I really would like to talk to you about your views on food addictions. I am really struggling with mine. Gail Small(er)

I would have one of three things. The local chinese buffet, the Penn. Dutch buffet,or the 48 oz. steak smothered with mushrooms and onions.

February 7, 2003
Store-bought chocolate birthcake with thick white frosting. Brownies. Candy bars - pretty much any of them, but for sure a Reese's PB Cup. Diet Coke. Peanut butter fudge. Peanut Buster Parfait. Oh dear, the list could be endless..... I can eat everything else, it's the sugar I have stayed away from and would love to indulge. Although I'm currently on a bad binge with carbs that I can't seem to shake!

February 7, 2003
It's funny. I can pretty much eat anything I want, just in small amounts and I don't really crave anything much any more either. Every once in a while, though, I miss being able to eat a big ole sub sandwich, you know loaded up with a bag of chips and some soda. The only problem is that's how I got so fat so although I can't pig out like that now, I'm happy. I enjoyed reading everyone's answers.

February 7, 2003
heheeh i love this question!! and to the person who was in shock that anyone could "pack away" that much food, lol let's not be in denial, you DID have WLS because you too could "pack away" your fair share! Anyhoo, the meal that sounds damn good right now would be an Olive Garden outing with breadsticks, side of marinara / alfredo sauce, lots of their yummy salad and either the tour of italy entree or their chicken fettuccini. Also a 3 scoop sundae with extra hot fudge, whipped cream, and nuts and a cherry!! yummy!! Or the donuts and ice cold milk meal sounds yummy too. The pasta/bread/sauce thing was always my favorite though so that's what I would love. Also a bbq beef sandwich with cheese fries and a coke sounds really good too!! And of course a big mac meal from McD's with a coke and a strawberry shake!! I had a big mac the other day and just nibbled at it and noticed that I don't like it anymore because it's too creamy and not tangy enough. I prefer the big n tasty without mayo but with extra tomatoes and pickles and ketchup. I just like tangier food and not so greasy/creamy anymore it's really weird! Anyway, after thinking about all this food, i'm kinda grossed out, I think i'll go peel a cucumber and eat that instead :) Ciao and Happy Losing!

I can eat almost anything now but in moderation. My favorite food would be a plate of my deceased mother's biscuits and gravy. Every morning we would smell Mom's cooking and we would rush to te kitchen. She always had hot biscuits with honey or homemade jam, gravy, fried potatoes, and orange juice. That could be why my weight reached 389 before surgery. I've learned portion control and read labels now and I'm down 150 lbs since May. Yes, there is life after surgery and I love mine.

February 7, 2003
I can't really think of anything that I'd like because the things I used to love just don't appeal anymore. Truth. As I try to think of something, the only thing I come up with is pancakes with real maple syrup or french toast. Hey, come to think of it, a hot Krispy Kreme wouldn't be too bad. But the honest truth is I prefer things like cherry tomatoes, bananas, oatmeal, and simple things. I guess I have really changed my mindset. Thank goodness.

Hello :). Original poster here again! You guys are so funny LOL. I love the people on this site. Well, ok, I DON'T love the person who sent me an email earlier today telling me that it's mean to ask these kinds of questions when we "obviously all have severe emotional eating disorders". This came from a self-proclaimed skinny person who is watching a friend go through the WLS process. The skinny friend thinks it's all a matter of willpower. Oh to be ignorant and uninformed :). As you can see, that email did not have the desired effect of upsetting me! So, raspberries to you skinny chick!!! Anyways, I think you guys here on AMOS are great, and I love the honesty and humor in your responses. To those of you who posted healthier choices than most, I have to say that you are a better person than I ;). Because after being on this liquid diet AGAIN (was back in the ER yesterday with stomach troubles) I'd REALLY love a sabbatical of just ONE DAY to go and EAT EAT EAT! LOL Yes, I realize that the skinny chick will probably mail me and tell me that food is my emotional crutch. Well hun, we all need a fantasy, and since my husband fulfills all my non-food ones, I guess it's ok for me to have this "crutch" (fantasy) to lean on, as long as I don't really go out and do it. Right guys??? I mean, afterall, a fantasy isn't supposed to come true; that's what it's called a fantasy!!! Rock on AMOS people, and skinny chick, get a hobby besides emailing me :). Buh bye for now!!!

First off, how in the world would someone who weighed almost three hundred lbs point a finger at someone else and say such a terrible thing about "putting it away". How rude. All those lbs came from somewhere. And now for my meal. A whopper w/cheese, fries, onion pettles, and iced tea. For dinner I would go with grilled chicken with a baked potatoe (loaded) and a salad (loaded) also Coke. And a snack of pb cups and pringles. Yum, Yum.

A BIG bowl of Mac and cheese....homemade, with mac and velveeta cheese, salt and lots of pepper. AHHHHHH!!! Those were the days....days I could not walk, breath, work, sleep,....and so on....

February 7, 2003
Oh boy! I could name off a bunch of things! For breakfast probably french toast with lots of syrup and butter. I had a lot of favorite things for lunch or dinner. At Mcdonalds Id have one of their Double quarter pounder meals with a large coke, or at KFC I would have their six piece chicken strips meal with mashed potatoes and corn, or at the local Chinese place near where I live I'd have their Almond Chicken with chicken fried rice! If I fixed anything at home I would probably have lasagna, or spaghetti with meat sauce, or I'd fix roast chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy ( of course I wouldn't eat all of this stuff at once!) I could go on and on, but I better stop!:)

February 7, 2003
I don't know if I have been post-op long enough to be able to appreciate this question or not. I am only 11 days out. But I still have my favorites as everyone else does. I would love to have a huge blackened steak, with lots of mushrooms. Mashed potatoes smothered in butter and sour cream a huge diet coke and cheese cake for desert. MMMM now that is the ultimate! sigh.... days long gone.

February 7, 2003
Ok, so far (2 months post-op) I have been able to eat anything except pork chops (go figure?) in small quantities. Of course, this does not include anything with refined sugar which I avoid like the plauge. So in my fantasy chow-down it would have to be 3-4 creme filled Dunkin Doughnuts washed down with a 20oz Mt. Dew or two. I think I might dump just writing this. Back to my diet Snapple and lite yogurt...
   — Chris P.

February 7, 2003
I eat most everything on this list! But no milk, no sugar. So maybe to taste a Krispy Kreme? We didn't have them here til about 1 yr ago--out of my sphere. Maybe some ice cream? And the thing I THINK I miss, hot choc chip cookies (double choc chips) fresh out of the oven, with a BIIIG glass of was-frozen-now-thawed milk that still has ice crystals? Yep, there ya go. My latest thing this week is.... I don't believe I'm saying this...... grapefruit, carrots & celery. What has become of me?

Hi there! Oh man, the flood gates have started.:-) I would need 2 days for this. I used to make something I called pasta rings, they were bread, shaped in a circle and I would stuff them with mozzarella cheese and load it with our family's homemade recipe for marinara sauce and top it off with more mozzarella , but I would eat the entire thing and a cup of corn! I would also want 3 cannoli's, two reg. and one strawberry flavored! My Mother's Arroz con Grandules ( a Puerto Rican dish) with everything in it. A pint of Ben and Jerry's "Chunky Monkey". A double decker garden burger with the works from Ruby Tuesday's, with any of their luscious desserts. A pound of the most YUMMY DELICIOUS fries from a place called Susie's in Chicago. 5 plates of chinese food from our local Hong Kong Buffet. A piece of lemon meringue pie I saw my husband dig into earlier and a piece of our wedding cake that we have in our freezer. And I would not want any of these sugar-free or low-fat. But this is only in my dreams... now where's that piece of celery? hehe! Vi. open RNY 9/23/02 down 101 lbs.

I keep coming back to this question to see what others are saying! To Michelle Curran - ice crystals in the milk used to be my favorite! YAH! LOL To SuzAnne - laughing about the husband and fantasies thing. My husband read that and stated that he wished I would write something like that about him *howling laughter*. I told him that he'd have to earn it *evil grin*. I WANT SOME PIZZA AND ROOTBEER!

SuzAnne you crack me up! Koodos to you on the remark to miz skinny minni! She needs to get a life! Glad she's NOT my "Friend" - I'm sure she had good intentions but the road to H#$L is paved with with good intentions. Little miss upity needs to realize the pain she can inflict on others with those types of remarks... same goes for miz 295 pounder! She didn't get there eating celery sticks - none of us did! To answer your question - I'd like a big bowl of cereal - any presweetened kind with a LOT of milk in the bowl. Miss my milk - can't drink but a sip or two anymore without getting light headed.
