Question:
Do you feel full when you're on the post-op diet?

I had surgery on may 20th. I'm not hungry but I don't feel full. Does the sense of fullness begin now or when you're on solids? Im thinking maybe somthing's not right Im not full, I had 3oz of chicken broth and a whole popsicle or when I just drink the 3oz meals I dont feel full    — TCP1918 B. (posted on May 24, 2003)

Solids always make you feel full-for hours. Liquids fail to do so, and that's why my WLS doc does not approve of protein shakes, etc..hiw patients eat real food from about day 4. I have never had a problem with 'tolerating' foods like some people have. I eat ANY protein I desire, drink between and NOT with meals and do everything I'm supposed to. I attribute following those rules to my success. Check out my website for some good info...and good luck on your wonderful new futute! Diane N~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.WeightlossSurgery.ws

You hit it right on the head. You probably won't feel full until you're on solid foods. Liquids pass right through us, so ofcourse we won't feel full. The same goes for pureed or soft foods, they're not very dense, so they pass through quickly. SO you can probably eat 6oz of yogurt, but would never eat 6oz of chicken, know what I mean? You sound like you're doing fine, and keep listening to what your doc or nutritionist told you to do, b/c everyone on here and other surgeons have different views. But the liquid/soft food phase is for our own good at first- it helps heal the stomach and we lose the most weight. Gooduck to you :-)
