Question:
Anyone started out at 230lbs and made it to goal.

I'm at 7 months post op and only have lost 50 pounds. Is there any hope I will make it to 140lbs? Anyone out there have any similar experiences? Need to prepare myself if I'm not going to make it to goal.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on June 22, 2003)

Hi there...I feel the exact same way that you do. I started at 225lbs and I am 8 months post-op and have only lost 65lbs. I am behind schedule according to the weight loss planner. Also, sugar does not make me sick so that is a will-power thing for me. I still want to lose another 35lbs and I am starting the Atkins diet tomorrow with some girlfriends from work. Maybe that will get my weight moving again. Good luck to you and if you wish to e-mail me at [email protected] that would be great.

I started out at 5' 2" 235 lbs. Aug 2nd will be my 1 year anniversary. I have lost 96 lbs and now weigh 139. It's hard to believe I have actually accomplished this. I hardly ever dump on sugar or anything else at all. I just walk alot and drink my water.

I weighed 238 on March 4th. Today, 3.5 months post op, I've only lost 34 pounds. So, after reading the answers to the same question in my head "why am I not losing faster" I realize that the people in our weight category are NOT supposed to be losing 20 pounds a month. We'd all end up in a box in six months if that were the case. My goal is 125. I am now 203. It will take me nearly a total of 16 months, one year from now to be at that weight. But I know it will stay off forever. I thought, "geez I've done this before, and I could have lost the weight on my own without having changed my anatomy this drastically to lose the same weight" but truth is, I'd probably never do that. I'm glad I did the surgery, and I'm happy you guys are sharing the same experience regarding slow loss. I thought I was the only one! [email protected]

I started out at 271.4 and 5foot 4.25 inches. At 12 months from surgery I went from a size 26 to a size 4 . I now weigh 123 lbs. Hang in there. Everyones results vary.

It's taken me 13 months to reach 137 from 234. I'm 5'5". I found it helped my emotional state by weighing only once a month. Read my profile, Linda

I started at 230 and I am 5'7". It took me abut 10 months to get to my goal of 135. I am now about 20 months post op and weigh 120 pounds (give or take a few pounds...sometimes 118...sometimes 123...depending on the time of month)LOL My current BMI is around 18 or 19 I think. I wear a size 4 or 6 depending on the designer. (some 2's in Abercrombie) I had a tummy tuck, so my belly is very flat. Life had been great. Dont worry, we all lose at a different pace. You will do just fine!!

Hi! I am 4months post/op. I started at an even 250. I am now 162. I am down 88 lbs. I think that I will surely reach goal. I am more concerned with how to stop once you get there.(it would be nice to be a size 4 though,LOL)

Hi, i just asked a simular question, im 4 months post-op and down between 52-55lbs, im losing slow. I guess it will just take time. my goal weight is 160lbs but my dr goal weight for me is 138lbs, that is to thin for me, but i won't complain if i get there, we less heavy weights just have to hang in there and be patient.

I was 248 and I now weigh 125. It is possible. However, I worked like a dog to get to this weight. I worked out 5 days a week from post-op month 2 to post-op month 9. That's truly what made the difference. I was almost at goal by month 9. Then I had my tummy tuck and made it to goal.

Hi, I am 5'2 and currently weigh 118lbs. I had surgery on Aug. 7th, 2002. I have lost a total of 94lbs. 10lbs until my goal of 108lbs. I lose very slowly now and really any more weight loss depends on me (diet and exercise). Good luck! 212/118/108

I asked this same question recently too -- why was I losing so slowly. You are asking why can't you get to 108 from 118. Don't want to make anyone mad here, but honey, you ARE at goal. You just happened to pick the very bottom of your range. I think adjusting your expectations is more realistic than killing yourself to make 10 more lbs. I'm 5'1" and have a goal range of 105-122. There is no way that I think I will EVER weigh 105 -- in my few years of thinness (and that was 18 - 23 years ago) my lowest weight was 122. If I get within shouting distance of 130, I'll be THRILLED. And on the "slow" loss -- every person who posted here complaining about slow had a different weight loss at a different rate. I think for those of us who some call "lightweight" (sorry, I don't like the term -- I was) morbidly obese just like everyone else) i.e. under 300 lbs, 30-40 lbs in 2-3 months is quite on track. Those over 300 and 400 lbs. are the ones who can lose in double dights per week. My surgeon likes to remind me that the weight loss window is 12-18 months -- not 12 mos. -- and that surgery statistics show the average loss is 75-80 percent of excess weight. So if I have 100 lbs to lose, I should expect to lose 80 lbs of it in 12-18 months -- not 100 lbs. The rest I may have to do myself. Now I may not like it and may want the surgery to do it all, but it can't. I have to remind myself to look at the other stuff -- look, I have a chin, or there's a waist there now, or my blood pressure drop of 20 points, or only taking 2 meds now (at 8 weeks post op) instead of 8, or having normal blood glucose levels -- whew, I've tired myself out. Aren't those all cool things? You bet. My BMI dropped below 40 for the first time last week -- I'm no longer MORBIDLY Obese. So try not to focus on the scale, and try to accept the tremendous accomplishment you have now. YOU ARE IN YOUR GOAL RANGE. Did you ever think you'd be there? I don't believe yet that it will happen for me, but it should. Be happy!! You've earned it.

Hi, me again. I just wanted to let everyone know that I did not pick 108lbs as my goal--my surgeon and my PCP did. I am VERY tiny boned. My mother is 107, sister 100lbs, grandma 105lbs, etc. I was always about 108-110lbs growing up. I am happy now with my weight but know that I will look and feel best closer to my goal weight. Hope that clears up some of the comments I posted before. Good luck and have a great day!

I had my rny on 11/12/02, very close to yours. Started higher than you at 261. It has been over 7 months and I have only lost 60 pounds. I am very depressed about this. I know I need to excercise and I am planning to do excercise with my hubby. I do not know if I will make it to my goal of 149. Denise 261/201/149??????? if I ever get there

I had my surgery in Dec., '02. I am 5'3" and started at 240. I am now at 175--a 65 lb. loss. Sometimes I get discouraged, but then I remind myself, I've never been this successful with weight loss in my life! Of course I want to lose another 35-50 lbs., and I will. I have recently been counting calories, found out I have been eating lots of calories on wasted foods--crackers, pretzels, etc. Since watching those things and keeping calories under 900/day, and protein at over 50 grams/day and fiber above 30 grams/day, I have had more success. Good luck!
