Question:
Prozac Post-Op

My surgeon told me to open the capsule and mix the powdered-mixture with water. I tried it once, but never again. It was albsolutely revolting. Do any of you out there take liquid Prozac? I found that both my surgeon and PCP to be of little help with suggestions regarding post-op medications.    — carpediem (posted on October 12, 2003)

Everyone is different, but my surgeon told me to go ahead and take my Prozac in the capsule form. I was kinda' scare that first day but I knew without the food I was sure gonna need something to humor me. I'm 3 weeks post-op and have been taking it since day 1 without problems. Some of my other medicines are taken only after I break them up some way but the capsule has given me no trouble. Listen to YOUR surgeon, he knows what your body can tolerate. I have been told that there is a liquid pProzac available, but I have NO experience with it.

Hi Debi- I read somewhere about people mixing the powder inside of capsules with Splenda to make it tolerable. I plan to take packets of Splenda with me to the hospital just in case. Good Luck, Mea :o)

You should be able to mix the powder with 1 or 2 tablespoons of s/f apple sauce. That's what they do in hospitals & nursing centers when people can't swallow pills.

Generic prozac comes in tiny pills. Just ask pharmacist.

I tried the liquid and it's vile - a lot like drinking lighter fluid! Now I take the once-a-week capsule - I just break it open and swallow the tiny dot-sized pills inside. No taste, easy & much better than the liquid. Plus, it's only once a week! Good luck.
