Question:
Can anyone tell me a daily gram amount for carbs?
I have read recently that when you hit a plateau, you need to up the protein and drink water, as well as watch your carbohydrate intake. I know I need a minimum of 57 grams of protein a day, and I need to keep my fat between 20-27 grams a day, but I was wondering if there was a place I could find out how many grams of carbohydate I should be staying under or near per day. Any ideas? Thanks! — M B. (posted on April 3, 2000)

MB: Eliminate or at least try too, as much bread as you can, pastas,
corn and excess sugar and white flour any food that lists on the label
sucrose, glucose, dextrose (any -ose), mollasses, honey, brown sugar,
flour, all breads, all pasta, all potaotes, all rice! from your diet. Eat
simple vegetables, lots of protein and meats, dairy and such. If you keep
your carbohyrdate intake low, take good vitamins and minerals, eat good
protein and LOTS and LOTS of water you will be fine.

MB - Vicki posted good advice. Just be careful with those vegetables, many
of which are mostly water and simple carbs (sugars). Either eliminate all
carbs, or if you still want some, go for the most complex carbs you can
find, because they'll be harder to digest and harder to absorb than more
simple varieties. Does your surgeon have a nutritionist on staff? He or she
can give you some good recommendations on ways to break your plateau. Best
of luck to you.

Hi MB. One serving of Carbs = 15g of carb. My post-op diet calls for 4
servings or 60g of carb per day. Next week, my plan calls for a total
return to slowly adding all foods back into my diet, and I don't know if I
will be adding one more serving of carbs per day or not. My diet is split
into the folowing catagories: Milk, Protein, Carb, fruit, and fat. Though
some catagories overlap (like milk has carb and protein), they stay in
their own catagory. Good luck!
