Question:
Seeking Suggestions To Get Off A Plateau

I don't eat much maybe three times a day and it's usually a cottage double in the morning, a sugar-free popsicle with an oz of peanuts in the afternoon, and two or three chicken wings (The small wingetts). I drink crystal lite and diet tea all day. So, please help me. I also know that I haven't got a leak or any problem with my pouch. But, I do still get sick alot. My doc thinks it's from my intestines. So I have to go back to a GI doc again. But I really want to know why I'm not losing any weight.    — ladyhoneybear (posted on June 22, 2003)

Hi. From my point of view, you are not getting enough good protien in. Try supplementing with liquid protiens and protien bars (Detour is an excellent tasting protien bar). I know my nutritionist constantly says if you are one a plateau and want it to break, increase your protien to even 120 each day! I've lost 210 lbs in 18 months, so... something is working! See my profile for my diet. Good Luck!

I agree with the other posts. You have to eat to lose. I didn't eat enough and what happens is your weight loss slows as your body protects you from starvation and you lower your metabolism rate. Now, because of that, I gain very easily with just a little food. What does it mean "from your intestines"?

I hear from a lot of post ops who have a problem with chicken. I am one year out and still cannot eat it. For some reason it really makes me sick. You should try to balance out your meals more and up the protein intake.

in addition to what everyone else said... I wonder, are you exercising? If not.. you probably should.. and then you will need to eat even more... but yes, you should likely eat more quality food.

I am 5 months post op and have lost 103 pounds. Last two months I hit a plateau (for me) and there were basically 3 things I had to do to get losing again. 1. drink 64 ounces of water every day religiously 2. up your protein. always eat/drink at least 60 grams of protein a day. when I want to kick start my losing I up my protein to 90 grams a day. This wworks great and also keeps my hair from falling out (which it does when I don't drink enough protein). 3. exercise, even if its only for a few mintues every day. You will start to see a difference and then increase your time spent exercising. You will feel and look great! If you are like me I hate most of the protein powders so I drink Sci Fit Amino Infusion 5000 (comes in 3 flavors) and eat Detour bars. It works for me. Hopefully someone has given you some advice that works for you.

I had the same problem with getting sick all the time. Come to find out the hole between the esophagus and my stomach had shrunk from 10cm down to 2cm. It required me to be re admitted for a simple procedure. Now I feel so much better.
