You might as well get used to it. I am 16 months post op and still have
the same problem. Most of the people I have talked with have it to. Guess
it has to do with the rerouting of the stomach and intestines. I want to
start experimenting with different products like the activia yogurts and
things that aid in digestion, but they all seem to be made with nutrasweet
which I am allergic to, and the regular have too much sugar. Maybe you
will get some good suggestions we can all benefit from. Good luck and
congrats on your surgery.

I had the lap band surgery and with all the protein shakes it caused severe
constipation and trapped gas. Miralax helps a little, but nothing makes you
feel as good as the Dulclax pills. I now take 2 per day and feel great.
Doctor says it is ok.

I also experience the horrible smelling gas - which is so embarrassing. I'm
5 1/2 mos posst-op. I started taking DEVROM - which you can order online @
Devrom.com. It's over the counter and has been a life-saver for this
embarrassment!!!! You can take up to 6 capsules/day. I don't know what
I'd do without them!!! Good luck to you!

Eating lots of protein creates gas and rumblings. Take something to calm
down the gas I take tums when it gets bad and works for me!

Yup hate to break it to you, it doesn't get any better. I am 2 years almost
out and still have terrible problems with it. I have noticed that eating
carbs makes it worse.

Hi! I had the same problem until I cut back on the artificial sweeteners.
They seem to make us produce a lot of gas and fowl smelling too. best of
luck! hugs,Kim

If you are RNY it is not possible to take capsules. UNLESS you open them
up. I have tried capsules and it isnt dissolved because of the gelatin.
Just an FYI. Have a great day and good luck on this fabulous journey!

my MD says i can take pills now and he has had teh surgery himself. i take
alot of meds he told me to be sure to spread my pills out and not to take
but may be one pills and a few min later take another and then wait a while
before taking another pill. i was scared to death right after surgury
because i was told not to take pills and many of my breathing meds and
blood pressure pills couldn't be filled in liquid. i had surgury march 16th
2010 and for the past week i have been taking all of my pills just fine but
i have to keep them on a schedule or i will fill up on pills. my big pills
like my pain pill and my calcium citraite i break in half.. i guess every
dr has his own rules though.
:-)
also i was concerned about not getting a script for the disolvable prevecid
and he told me my generic prilosec capsule was fine that at this point i
don't have to open it up

The first year is the worst as you heal and you body gets used to it's
rerouted plumbing!...But as time goes by you learn which foods make it
worse or better...I take beeno when I am eating something I know will give
me gas, like broccoli, cabbage, mushrooms, beans, milk, whey, simple sugar
especially sugar alcohols! Simple carbs makes my gas awful smelly. Sugar is
bad bacteria's favorite food...As the bacteria eats the sugar you eat,it's
feces produce gas, swelling and that awful smell. The more simple sugars
you eat the bigger the colony of bad bacteria (flora)...For that, I take
probiotics (same stuff in yogurt) They are the good bacteria that eat the
bad bacteria and keep your gut in balance...It takes a few days for the
probiotics to kill, eat and your body to get rid of the bad
flora...Probiotics have totally changed my life! Every once in a while I'll
have a bad bout of bad gas...but I always get it under control with
probiotics and with watching that sugar/simple carb intake! Hope that
helps
