Question:
Help! My scale is frozen!

I had RNY on 8/27/07 and i have lost 80 pounds! My problem is that the scale has been frozen for almost 2 weeks. 1st I thought it was because of the time of month, then I was sick with pneumonia. But I am over all that now and still the scale does not move. What should I do? Thanks in advance for your ideas, Joanna    — Joanna J. (posted on January 1, 2008)

I haven't had the surgery yet, but I would think that 80 lbs in 4 months is great. I would think that your body is just adjusting to the new weight. I am sure that the scales will start moving again. Kim

You have done fantastic and between the surgery and your illness your body needs to catch up so don't be hard on yourself. Get back to the basics of fluids, more fluids and protein. As you are physically able start exercising again and above all be patient. You will have plateaus but it will start to come off again. Good luck. Donna 20 mo post rny 286/131

Wait it out. What NOT to do is get disappointed and get off track. I'm only 7 weeks out and I've already hit a plateau, which I understand is normal for some. Keep on track, keep doing all the good things that removed that 80 pounds from your body. Good Luck!

Theres hope!! i too was getting frustrated. i just decided to get on the scale today, and guess what 43 lbs gone!!! so it is easy to want to weigh every day, and dont, because more likely than not, you will find your at the same weight :( so just keep being possitive, and active, and you will be down again before you know it. congrats on your big w/l already!!!! take care kim

First off CONGRATS on the super weight loss. I agree with everyone, wait it out. Your body might be trying to catch up with that large amount of weight and you are hitting a plateau. I found that if I wasn't losing weight on the scale my body was losing inches somewhere. Also if you were on any kind of cough syurp that could affect the weigh loss. Don't give up, your doing great......

Hello Joanna and Happy New Year! The first thing you should do is NOT PANIC and keep doing what you're doing. Your body has to catch up with the weight loss -- adjustments have to be made and stay off the scales. Allow your clothes to notify you of your weight loss. Your body has probably reached what is known as a plateau and then the weight loss will pick up again. Don't worry, there isn't anything wrong with you or your scale or what you're doing. Keep doing what you're doing and that is a great amount to have lost in 4 months. I didn't check your profile; however, what I've noticed is people who go into the surgery weighing 300 plus pounds usually lose a 100 pounds in the first six months or so and then slow down. Do fret not. You'll be fine.

Looks like we had surgery at the same time and are having the same results...I've hit that scale problem a couple times. Make sure you are keeping up on your water and it will turn around. Don't weigh every day (this is a challenge for me!) And you gave two great reasons to be stalled - our bodies still have the same protective responses to illness and periods...you are doing great!!!

First off, congratulations on the weight loss. It is a great amount and give yourself credit for it. Your body has been through a lot in the last several months. You have to let it go at it's own pace. I was told when I hit a plataeu (sp) to increase the protien and I found that when I did it works, so try that because it sure isn't going to hurt you that's for sure.

I had reflux prior to band placement on December 4th. I took nexium a few times the week after surgery, but have not needed any since.

I had rny 7-11-07 and I too have had periods of no weight loss, after that I did tend to get upset, but Someone told me to increase your food and increase your excerise, I did and it worked. I also measure my body in 12 places to see a difference and when I am not losing weight I am losing inches. good luck, Cynthia

I think it is because you are so close to Onederland. I had my surgery on 8/16/07 and I have noticed the wt loss slowing but I am at 310 lbs right now. I don't know what may work but if I were you I would try to trick my body out of its comfort zone. Maybe do more strenuous excercise for short bursts at a time. Or maybe change your eating routine...maybe less or more calories or a different percentage of protein to carbs. I think the scale will move soon it is just a small plateau.
