Question:
I have kind of a weird question that has been bothering me........

I have four beautiful children, and they are all between the ages of 5 and 10, the three youngest 5, 6,7, my question is this..... I had my tubes tied after my youngest child... But I have heard several people mention that when you lose and excess amt of wt, that it can come undone. Maybe I am paranoid..... I am so terrified of gaining back my weight. I have lost between 120-130 lbs... in less than a year..... I feel and look much better. My life finally seems to be taking shape... But the thought of another child and the weight gain terrifies me...... OPEN RNY 10/4 BTC of OH, Dr. Kaczmarski.( he has to be our gift from heaven!!!!!!!!!!)    — TONYA B. Well if your tubal was done correctly it should never come undone, it is difficult to even have a tubal reversed. They can shoot dye in to your uterus and check your tubes to see if they are open or still closed ... Please talk to your OB/GYN they should be able to reassure you. Missy

I don't have any info for you, but thank you for asking the question. I am 3 weekes away from my surgery and I had my tubes tied three years ago. I didn't plan on having any more children either so please let me know what you find out. Congrats on your success. Stephanie

If you are concerned, you must speak with your OB/GYN. My understanding, when I "had my tubes tied" during the cesarean delivery of my last child, was that the expression "tying your tubes" isn't quite accurate. In fact what they do is tie off the tube in two places, and REMOVE the portion of tube between those ties. Am I crazy? Do I have this wrong?! That's how I remember it being explained to me! So even if the tubes were able to "come un-tied" there would be a portion of tube missing, making it very difficult (impossible?) for a sperm and an egg to meet up!

Even back in the 70's they did indeed cut, remove a hunk and cauterize the tubes. I've heard of the very rare event where the tubes found each other, but then...? Was it done correctly? Did they not take that little hunk out? Will we ever know? I cannot imagine how wt (gain or loss) would affect the tubes. ???

I too had my tubes tied two years ago after my third daughter during a ceserean section. I was told at that time that although it is highly unlikely that yes there is always that very very tiny chance that I could become pregnant again. The reason being: Your body doesn't like to be altered. It will try to heal itself. In some very rare cases the tubes have regenerated and caused a pregnancy. I'm not trying to scare anyone, just stating what my OB/GYN told me at the time of my surgery. I have faith that I will never have to worry about it though. However, my mom has always teased me that I can just look at a man and get pregnant, so if it happens to anyone, it will probably be me, lol. I have not heard anything about the surgery causing the tubes to come untied either. I would definately call your OB/GYN if you have any doubts. I'm sure they can set your mind at ease. Good luck!! **RUTHIE**

Actually, there are several ways the tubes are "tied." The ones that I have seen the dr used little "alligator clips" to block off the tubes. The technique used depends on the surgeon's preference. Chances are you won't have a problem with it. The biggest problem with tubals is that a lot of women WANT to reverse them but can't. Good luck. I'm with you. I love my daughter, but I SURE don't want another one! I am looking into getting my tubes tied now.

Guess what--this better work--my surgeon is tying my tubes as an added little bonus while he's in there for my open RNY!! He says it's the first time he's ever done that little combo, but understands with 5 children at home under 14 my reason for not wanting to go under general anesthesia again so soon--especially since #5 showed up last year and already delayed this surgery!!!!
