I'm still quite new at this so I'm not 100% on what to say. But I really think you need to seek medical attention ASAP! Being that thin isn't healthy. Especially if you don't FEEL healthy. Vomitting continuously is not only bad for your stomach but also bad for your esophogus (sp?) and mouth - think of bulemics. And the fact that you are 3 years out and 95% of food bothers you, it seems like something must be wrong. I know people have certain foods they can't tolerate, i.e. spicy, chicken for some, beef for some. But everything you eat bothers you and that worries me. You need to find a new bariatric doctor who is in your insurance group - it sucks it won't be your original surgeon but you gotta do what you gotta do. lol. your original surgeon can have your records sent to the new doc. Have your PCP help you find one. Also locate a nutritionist. You should also have some bloodwork done to see where you stand on deficiencies. Have you been taking vitamins? I'm not well versed in vitamins but I'd be concerned with iron, B12 and calcium especially at 65. Please please please find a doctor. OH can help you find a surgeon in your area - contact them Monday-Friday 9am-5pm PST 1-866-297-4964. I wish you all the best. ((hugs))

This is not healthy or normal. Perhaps you should contact your insurance company and ask if they have a listing of Bariatric physicians listed in their network of providers that can see you and ask your PCP for the referral. You did not mention how long it was before your surgeon switched HMO's. Could you have not discussed this w/ your surgeon prior to letting this problem last 3 years? Constant vomiting can potentially cause damage to your pouch, esophagus, and teeth because of stomach acids and bile in the vomit. You also failed to mention how soon after the surgery this problem began. Also sounds like you may not have had all the information you needed including symptoms to report, a nutrition class, etc.... before going into surgery. God Bless and Good Luck. Start w/ your insurance company first.

I am also new at this, but why would you wait so long before seeking help? If your PCP won't or can't help you, go to the ER and they will refer you to a bariatric doctor. You most likely are lacking in alot of vitamins, protein, etc. and are surely malnourished. Please find some help TODAY!!

By this stage, even a PCP not experienced with bariatrics would have probably had an endoscopy performed to see if there was a narrowing of your stoma or an ulcer. Ruling those issues out, with luck he has tried you on a course of any of the various acid reducers (Nexium and Previcid sometimes help people who complain that they have constant stomach upset). You should also not rule out that there could be a psychological component of your discomfort with food. If someone I knew complained of stomach problems for three years while they were wasting away, I would be terribly concerned that they were suffering from an eating disorder and using the chance of post-RNY complications as the rationale for their eating. I'm not saying that this necessarily applies to you, but many studies have been published that link many of the behaviors that contribute to morbid obesity with comparable behaviors in anorexia. Also, from my own experience, I have gone through periods after complications where I have been afraid to eat because there was discomfort and nausea; fortunately, these periods were of relatively short duration.

I will be 65 yrs old in October. I have had no problems so far. But if I start having them, I will go to a dr about them. Just because your surgeon switched HMO's doesn't mean you can't go to him. You would just have to pay an office call. Scar tissue can develope at any time. You do need to see a gastro dr. Please do not wait any longer!

Another thing you can do is contact your insurance company and ask for a referral.

Dee, You did not mentione where you live, but, there must be a Doc in your area that you can see about this. For letting this go on so long, you are most likely very low on some of your vitamin levels. I bet those have not been checked either. You must get checked out by someone.Call your surgeons office and as them what to do? Tell them what has been happening, they may be able to help overe the phone, but, most likely they will want to see you and soon. Hope you feel better soon.

I also am in my 60's and had surgery 2 yrs ago. I also have pain when I meat. I took myself to the PCP and he recommended that I go to the Gastroenterologist how did test and found that even though I take Nexium, he perscriped Sucrafate to take along with it. Talk to your dr. and ask his advice on this. Good Luck and I hope that you are pain free real soon.

I am also 65 and have 23 days until surgery and think you need to go to the ER and have them refer you to a bariatric doctor immediately. I am sure that medicare will pick this up as they are now paying for the bariatric surgery. What medicare doesn't pay surely your secondary will pick up!

Talk to a GI doc about an endoscopy (EGD) and tell him of your RNY. An up to date one will know. My GI guy even has a printout on his report! So cute. Not all know what it is or how big the stoma should be, though, so listen carefully and be certain he has or will read up on the latest. As to getting you properly nourished, that we can do and I'd recommend the Grad list to help you (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG), but living on slider foods won't help if your issue can be fixed in one simple appt or with cheap drugs (generic PPI's).
