Question:
loosing slow

Seems like I have lost 38 lbs since 11/3 but now it is slowed down and I should be loosing faster than that. For no apparent reason to me I have got to a standstill. I will loose for a few days and then it seems I gain it back. Do we yo-yo like that much? I just want to loose weight. I really dislike protein drinks and bars...they seem to taste so bad . Do you have to have them to loose weight? Please someone help me with your advice.    — Tana Mallard (posted on February 3, 2007)

I am assuming that you have had RNY surgery, not lap band. If I am correct, I have a few suggestions for you: 1. Keep a food diary. keep track of your protein intake as well as your fluid intafe. 2. Drink at least 80 oz. of fluid every day. 3. My Dr. said 80 Grams of protein per day. 4. Keep exercising. I could not walk very well when I first had surgery, so I found an exercise facility with a pool, where I could walk in the water. 5. Don't weigh yourself everyday. The natural up and down can make you crazy. Weigh only once per week. As for protein drinks, please try Unjury protein powder . It comes in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and a new chicken flavor that you can mix with warm water for a "broth". I use mostly the vanilla, which I mix with flat Sunkist diet orange soda. It tastes like an orange creamcycle. ( for flat soda, open the can and put it in the fridge over night. ) you can also mix vanilla with diet root beer, for a float; chocolate is great with diet caffine-free cola or diet cherry soda. ( unjury.com) I hope these ideas help. I am 11 months post-op and have lost 133 puonds, going from a size 26-28 to a 12-14. these tools have worked for me. good luck.

I have also tried many differnet protein shakes.. I didn't like the taste either. I drank 8oz of skim milk twice a day to get extra protein in. I then found Body Fortrss Whey chocolate powder at Target. I started off with just a tiny bit in my milk. Everyday adding a little more. I'm up to a half of a scoop and now can't start my morning without it. I had by-pass on 11/1... I've lost 56 pounds..But I also too had weeks that I didn't loose anything then the next week loose 5-8 pounds. My doctor, who is very rude and I don't really like, said it like this... The weight will come off, be patient!!! Good Luck...

You've lost 38 lb. since November 3, 2006? That's just SUPER! The only problem is that if your protein intake is not suffieient, your weight loss may be coming from decreasing muscle mass and not fat reduction. You've simply got to find a form of protein that you like and in sufficient quantities to do you some good. Drinking a couple of glasses of skim milk each day is not enough. ---- I LIKED my protein power concoction (without anything added) so that did it for me, for ABOUT A WEEK; however, I soon had to be inventive to get variety. Anything that tastes good at first will become distasteful over the long haul if you have to ingest lots of it, as you do with a protein drink. So I "doctor up" my protein drinks with bananas, blueberries, cinnamon, etc.. I change the "formula" from one day to the next. In this way, I don't get bored with the same old thing day after day. I eat other forms of protein too but I always guarantee that I get my required minimum of 50 grams of protein per day by taking in a measured amount of whey protein in a tasteful drink that does not become boring. ---- I done a review of the whey protein powder that I use. If you're interested, look for it in my profile page. ---- Good luck!!

You are doing great! 10 pounds a month is a wonderful average! You do need to get your protein, unfortunately. I have not found any that I like the taste of, either, but you just have to get that protein! Suck it up!
