Ensure, and Boast both have sugar, though a different name for it, but they are high in sugar. Carnation Instant Sugar Free is okay with some, and I have it with Soy Milk, so does great with me that way.

I have tasted both, the boost in my opinion tasted terrible and the insure was ok after the first gew sips, even though I haven't had the sugar free carnation instant breakfast, I do eat allot of sugar free things and they are usually pretty good, I am diabetic so I have had some training in sugar free things. Sugar comes in many forms read the label and anthing that has ose at the end of the word is another name for sugar for example, succrose in one sugar. if you want more info on sugar free item check out some diabetic website.

I personally don't like either Boost or Ensure, as the last poster said they both have a lot of sugar in them, I try to get my protein in my foods, much easier for me.try Louis Rich Chicken Breast Strips, they have 19 grams of protein, 1 gram of carbohydrates and only 3 grams of fat in a 3 oz. serving, the one I am describing is the grilled chicken breast strips,, but there are many varietys and they are all very good..

I didn't like either of those. I am not really a breakfast person and I just found a protein drink that tastes like chocolate milk and leaves no after taste. It has 10 sugars and 9 protein. Low calories and carb too. We give it to our patients where I work. It's called (choice). I am very very hard to please but this work out great. I have tried 6 or 7 other drinks also and this is the best. They also have oatmeal and cany bars.

Be careful. I've not had surgery yet, but from what I hear Boost is sweet. You don't want to go backward with your progress. Honestly can't say anything about Carnation Instant Breakfast-no experience with it.

The first 3 ingredients of Boost are water, sugar, and corn syrup. I posted a while back about eating a cream horn and not "dumping". Then I got jellyfish legs and the doctor said to drink Boost. I got about 4 ounces down, before I had the ONLY dumping episode I have had since surgery, 4 1/2 weeks ago. I was down 2 1/2 pounds before I was able to leave the bathroom. If you opt to try it -- buy one and see if it works.

READ THE LABELS! Before you buy a protien drink. Unfortunately some nutritionists and even surgeons are recommending Boost and Ensure, that are both very high in sugar and will likely cause dumping syndrom. You are best using a protien drink that is for low carb diets. Designer protien, Carb Solutions and Atkins are some but READ THE LABEL. It is a habit that if you didn't do before surgery, you had better learn soon.

I am 2 weeks post-op and have been using Ensure High Protein as my protein supplement -- and have lost 28 lbs. so far. My nutritionist's suggestion in the two months prior to surgery was to try different protein drinks BEFORE surgery, and see which ones you can tolerate well and enjoy. That way you have some to choose from post-op. Good luck!

I am back I remembered something Walgreens has a protein powder that is high in protein and low in carbs which turns to sugar after we eat it, the protein is 30 grams per serving, the vanilla has 2 grams of carb and the chocolate has 4 grams of carb, the other posters idea about trying things before surgery is an excellant idea, I have been trying different protein drinks, don't buy a powder unless you can get it in a small size to sample because they are expensive, I have been buying the pre-made in the cans, that way if I don't like it then I am not out allot of money, just remember refridgerate the cans first because they taste terrible at room temp.
