Question:
Weight has stayed the same for 7 days

I had the sleeve on 2-13-09 and I lost 14 pounds pre-op and since surgery I have lost 20 pounds. For the past 7 days I have not lost any weight it is staying the same. I am eating very little example breakfast scrambled egg white and a piece of low fat cheese, lunch cottage cheese and a little canned chicken, dinner cottage cheese and 2 pieces of thin sliced 98% fat free ham. I am always hungry, but am afraid to eat any more. I have always had trouble loosing weight. I was using the atkins strawberry protein drink, but the Dr. told me not to use it anymore. After I quit using it that is when my weight has stayed the same. I am afraid I am not getting in enough protein, but I do not know what to do. I am afraid to eat more. I know we are suspose to drink at lease 64 ounces of water per day, but I have had so much water that it just makes me sick to look at it. I have even used the crystal light to put in it. I could tolerate the atkins protein drinks, but the Dr. said no so that messed up my extra protein. Anyone have any suggestions?    — joejoe2 (posted on March 22, 2009)

This is something for you to check out. I am a distributer to Advocare. My website is www.advocare.com/09033631 We have shakes that have 24 grams of protein in them. There are 3 different flavors to choose from. Look over the website and feel free to call me with any questions. As always...check with your Dr. The ingredients are there for you to print out and share with your Dr. My name is Patty and my phone numbers are 715-879-4065 or 715-577-7344. Good Luck!

There is a product called protidiet, it is a concentrate that you mix with water, my doctors office sold it and I know you can get it online, I really liked this, esp. the Kiwi Melon kind, but they have many other flavors. That way you are killing two birds with one stone, getting your protein and fluids at the same time. I had the sleeve done last July and have lost 95 pounds, I am just now at a plateu, but if I dont lose another pound, it's ok with me, I am thrilled where I am at right now. Good Luck and GOD BLESS.

Protein supplements are not important if you can eat your protein...Drinking a protein drink is not different than eating the protein in REAL food...Just eat an extra scoop of cottage cheese or yogurt or drink a little LF milk during the day...Adding a little extra food in protein to replace what you stopped drinking is a good thing since you were losing just fine. My surgeon and Reg'd Dietician also prefer we NOT drink protein after a while as well. I was fine with that...At year 4 I began using protein powder again as breakfast supplement. But I could easily eat all my protein...I'm just lazy and like it as a creamer in my coffee! It's the protein or coffee creamer fru-fru with 100% fat and carbs and the same or more calories...I think it was a good trade...But that's 4 years later and I am a seasoned post op! Don't worry about what others think...Until you've been around a while, do you realize that all surgeons have their own opinions on how and what we should eat...I also heard that with the VSG you are not supposed to feel hunger, but so many of you do...Some say that it goes away...I hope it does for you as well! So many RNYers take for granted how wonderful it is to not feel hunger and they want it back! UGH! Good luck with your surgery and don't be afriad to eat a little more in protein...Just make good choices! And get in that protein you cut out! :)

At about the same time as you, I didn't lose anything for almost 12 days and I also had the gastric sleeve. I eat Greek yogurt with 0% fat, add sweetner and a little low-cal jam for taste. It has only 130 calories and 22g protein. Are you also getting exercise along with the calorie reduction. My dr. said that if you don't exercise that your body takes your needed calories from your lean muscle because it is easier than taking from your fat. This leads to being tired so exercise is necessary to continue making lean muscle. Hang in there. You have done really well to this point but it will slow down from here on in. Don't get discouraged and eating a little more protein of regular food is the best if you can manage it.
