Question:
Can anyone with this experience help me?

I had open RNY on 12/11/01. I had a great weight loss the first 7 weeks (57#). The weight loss has really slowed down, about 5# in the last month. I am losing inches (51.5). I am not complaining, but I would like to know what might be in the next chain of events. I get over 64 oz. of fluid and eat almost all protein and am walking more than I was able to do before. Thank you so much for your help. Don't post much, but read every day. Great place to come.    — Jan T. (posted on February 23, 2002)

You are probably on a little plateau. I had one at 2.5 weeks post op and liked to have scared me to death! I stopped losing for about 10 days and the the next week or so was very slight. Since then I have just been dropping the pounds in chunks...like 4 lbs in a day and then none for a couple. You are doing very well if you look at your loss in a broader spectrum...like over a month or 2. That's like 20 lbs a month! It is a little scary, but try to just go with the flow and do the best YOU can do everyday...It will come off :) I had my surgery a week after you and I have been averaging about 20lbs/month.

I am in the same boat as you. I do not have an answer for you but to tell you that I am 12 weeks post op. I loss 29# the first month, 7# the second month and with 5 days to go in the 3rd month, I've lost only 4#. I get a minn. 64oz water a day, minn. 75g protein a day, and I do not graze. I am eating farrrrr less than pre-op and feel great. I made a conscious effort to increase my exercise this past week (walking and aerobics w/Richard Simmons) and hope that will get things started again but if not, I know that there's no way I can't lose...it just may take more than a year instead of the 6-8mths I had expected (I had an original goal to lose 150#). And it helps to know that there are others like me who are experiencing the samething .

Hey, you're doing GREAT! The body sometimes needs time ti 'catch up" with the weightloss. Just keep doing what you're doing. You may need a day of higher calorie intake. Try some green vegtables with a few pats of butter or some cheese on top. That won't hurt byt may be enough of an increase in calories to jump-start you. Some people I know have had 1/2 baked potatoe with butter, bacon and sour cream and swear this works for a REAL plateau. WARNING: JUST DO THAT ONCE!! Good luck.
