Question:
HELP NEEDING TO KNOW

I had surgery 06/27/02. The day of surgery my weight was 264.5 and I'm 5'3. I weighted this morning and I weight 190. I was wondering if anyone else has the same stats as I do. I feel like I'm such a failure here and like I'm not going to lose anymore weight. I've only lost 5lbs in the last 4 weeks. I know I'm not suppose to compare but it would be nice to know someone who is in the same boat with me. Thanks and Merry Christmas to all. Tresea    — tresea (posted on December 19, 2002)

hiya... {{{hugs}}} you are doing fine! our stats are similar, i had surgery 6-14-01, am 5' 1/4", pre op: 268lbs and by december of '01 i was down 80-something pounds...december was when i hit my first plateau where i sat for 6 weeks! i was scared, nervous, frustrated but i upped my protein intake, increased my water, changed around my exercise and i started losing again. it took me 13 mos to reach goal weight, with a few more plateaus inbetween hang in there...try not to get down {{hugs}} kate www.geocities.com/katebme2002 open rny 6-14-01 pre op: 268lbs goal: 135lbs current: 126lbs

Hi. How are you clothes fitting? If your clothes are fitting more losely then you are probably losing fat but gaining muscle. Over the years of dieting.. I've always tried to focus on the clothes not the scale as a more accurate measure. Take Care, Be Well, and Be Happy!

Hi, I had my surgery on 6/26/02 and started out at 263 lbs. I'm 5'5 and now at 180 lbs. I recently asked a question similar to yours especially about comparing myself to others. I think I'm doing thing right but I'm not losing as fast as others. I do agree with the post about clothes fitting loser because I can wear a size 12. I use to wear a size 24 W. I think you are doing fine losing slower is an added benefit because it is less stressful on our bodies. Hey, and at least your under 200 lbs. That's Great!! Good luck and e-mail me any time.

We're some what close to starting stats...I am 5'2.5" and started at 282...I lost about the same pace. I also compared (still tend to) myself to others...it's hard to shake even though you're right....we shouldn't. I had surgery 7/17/01 and I have lost 142 lbs so far. I have platued for weeks at a time as well. But the pounds have come off slow but sure!!! I feel like I would be considered a slow looser...but for as frustrating as that is, it has benefits. I feel that because I didn't loose rapidly I was spared the hair loss thing...I had a few strands come out in the shower, but nothing anyone noticed. My skin is doing well...my face especially..I have a saggy belly, but nothing pendulous. So loosing a little slower can have it's benefits...and now I'm about 10 lbs within my goal and looking back it seems like the time flew. Hope this is a little helpful. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -142

Tresea--You are doing great!!! I can definitely relate to what you are saying...I had my surgery 6/4/02 and my start weight was 294.5 and I'm currently at 216.5 so I feel like a turtle but I'm very happy with my weightloss regardless--I know it is steadily coming off even if its bit by bit. And I'm much happier than I was 78 lbs ago. I guess I'll use the old cliche "good things come to those who wait" or is that weight..lol Good luck & God Bless :o)
