Question:
COULD THE BIRTH CONTROL PATCH KEEP YOU FROM LOSING?

I'm 3 weeks out and have only lost 7lbs. Could the patch be causing me not to lose? Maybe I'll drop when I get my period?    — Kelly* P. (posted on February 7, 2003)

Congratulations on your surgery! You didn't list on your profile how much you weigh but I do know the BC patch is only effective if you way under 200lbs. So I would call your doctor to get another form of BC. I use the pill and condoms, better safe then sorry. With that said, I have never used the patch but have read lots of posts here about people not losing when on the patch and once they take it off they lose. **kelly

Well most docs will say there is no medical proof that the pill or any form of it causes weight gain or prevents weight loss. LET ME TELL YOU I think that is a bunch of bunko. When I first got married I went on the pill and within a year I gained like 100 lbs on it. When I stopped the pill the weight leveled out. Anyway, I would recommend other methods but you have to be careful. Rapid weight loss will affect almost all birth control, the only method it does not affect is condoms. Be oh so careful, pregnancy rigt now can be dangerous to you. Some people do it ok, but take care of you first!! :) Good luck ***11 mths PO -190 lbs, current weight 130***

I used the patch for 2 months post-op and didn't lose any weight. I stopped them and am losing again. I just use condoms and lots of caution even though I really don't think I can get pregnant(been trying for years) I don't want to get pregnant now, wouldn't it be about right to do so now!!

I'm at goal and have been sicne September. I use the patch and have been since November and I haven't gained or lost any weight. I've maintained but that's what I want to do. Also, are you over 200 pounds?? The patch isn't very effective if you are more then 200 pounds.

I went on the patch back in November and didn't lose anything from that point until just a few weeks ago when I decided to take myself off of it. Now, I am losing again. I have dropped approx 12 lbs just w/in the last few weeks since stopping the patch. I am just using condoms now. I am 8 months post op and have about 30 lbs to go to goal. Good luck!

I totally agree with Tina. After I had my son I tried Norplant, gained weight. After my daughter I tried the Depo injections, gained weight. I didn't eat any more or excercise any less, but still packed on the pounds. I truly believe that all those "hormonal" types of bc will make you gain, not all do, but A LOT DO. I would suggest using condoms. JMO

I had a lot of trouble with the pill and weight gain but mostly with my blood pressure and increase in migraine. I got an IUD 2 years ago and LOVE IT, nothing to maintain, no artificial hormones, almost 100% effective and you don't have to remember to do anything. The only thin I have to remember is that in 8 monre years I need to replace it.

I agree with the last poster - I got the IUD and it was the best thing I ever did! No side effects whatsoever!
