Question:
Quick protein to go...no frig needed!

Not a question just something I found at Krogers today. It's a small pouch of beef jerky bites by OhBoy Oberto. The pouch is one serving with 100 calories and 17 grams of protein. It's a lot nicer than trying to figure out a portion of regular beef jerky. So if you need to have portions ready to grab and go this would be great!    — Sarahlicious (posted on July 24, 2003)

I feel like I have a mini kitchen with me at work, but I avoid the "naughty" behavior by having snacks and meals available for me. I make a meal and freeze small amounts and leave them in the fridge at work. I have small bags of nuts and fruit bits, cheese sticks, yogurt and little single size soups. I have found that if I don't have a variety of foods on hand, that I tend to have the head hunger more often. It's a good idea to keep a few 'healthy snacks and water in your car, because some days the clock is moving faster than I can keep up and I don't want to have a set back because I was soooooo hungry I eat whatever I can find. I know, I'm rambling, but she made a very good point by having the single serve size, it makes life such much easier, doesn't it.

Has anyone tried Atkins Crunchers? They're chips made from soy protein. A bag has 100 calories, 13 gr. protein, 3 gr. fat, 8 gr. carb (1 gr. sugar) and 3 gr. fiber. I found them at Trader Joe's for $1.39 a bag. The only flavor I've found is Nacho Cheese. They're not Doritos, but they're not bad, and they really satisfy my craving for a crunchy, salty snack.

I love beef jerky! Especially the individual portions. One of my favorites is Jack Link's Steak Bites. They are just as good as jerky, but they are really tender and don't get stuck in my teeth. lol! I wanted to mention something else too. The previous poster said she eats Atkins Crunchers when she wants something crunchy and salty. Another fix for that is turkey pepperoni. Just lay out several slices on a plate and microwabe them for one minute. You get a crunchy, salty, slightly smoky snack that really satisfies. For 17 slices it's like 90 calories, 4 grams of fat, 0 carbs, and 9 grams of protein. Definitley better for you than some other choices!
