Hi, I'm 53 and and have lost a total thus far of 105 pounds in the last 8 months. I lost 70 pounds by my 4th month. I was weighing 250 day of surgery and I'm 5'4" tall. I began walking upon my return home from hospital and walk 7 days a week, without fail. I bike/water aerobics and weight train besides walking. You have to work this tool to see great results. Oh, I would not advise to snack other than with healthy foods. Good Luck!!!!!!!!

I am losing slowly as well. Had surgery on 10/3 and have lost 27 pounds. :( I am getting protein in, hungry all the time and eat more than most I am sure. I could eat meat at 2 weeks out, I eat smaller portions than before surgery and currently am following a low carb, high protein diet. When I eat, it has protein in it. I could use some words of encouragement also. -Vicki

Hi Debbie. I read your profile. You had a nasty bout with pnemonia, and I would say your body is trying to take it's time and heal. Unless you are eating a lot of high carb, fatty foods, I wouldn't say that's the reason. The first 4-6 months you will lose regardless, UNLESS you are grazing all day. Are you keeping a food journal and tracking your daily intake somehow? I try to do that so I won't under estimate how much I'm eating and try to get away with more. That has been helpful to me. I eat a lot of SF jello and popsicles. It gets me through those moments when I want to snack. If I must have something solid to get me through, I eat a little peanut butter on a cracker. I really don't think you're losing that slowly. This almost sounds cliche'ish... but do follow the protien/water rules first. Get some cardio exercise and you will make your goal. God bless you... ((((((((HUGS))))))))

I think some people are more appt to lose slowely, I had open RNY on 7-8-03 and am down 51 pounds. I think I am losing more slowly because I started out at 237 and am considered a lightweight(Jeez I wish I felt like a lightweight)I am going to be 30 in Jan dont know if age has anything to do with it. I think you are doing great!!!

I had lost 52# at 3 months post op (Oct. 1). I've only lost 10# since then and none since Oct. 27. Even though I started to add 50 grams of protein a day in protein shakes which I started around the 27 of Oct. I feel like they are hindering my weight loss. It just seems strange that as soon as I started to drink them, I haven't lost a pound. I'm gonna give it another week and then give them up if there is still no loss. Good luck on your loss!!

To speed up your weight loss, consider utilizing an Atkins type of induction diet. Increase your protein intake to at least 80 grams a day and decrease your carbs to no more than 15 grams; after about 3 days, your weight loss should start to pick up. After that, try to maintain protein intake of over 60 grams and keep your daily carbs to under 40 grams. This has helped me to lose 265 pounds (and surpass my goal) in 13 months.

So many of us (I did it too ) complain about the rate and amount of weight we lose! I dont want to sound like the heavy here , but thats the trouble with dates-and-weights and comparisons!! We have absolutely NO CONTROL physiologically on how much or how fast our bodies will lose!! If you're following the program and doing your protein water & exercise you WILL lose ... so sit back and enjoy the wls ride. Don't anguish over how much or how fast you're losing and most of all DONT compare yourself with ANYONE else!!

SLOW LOSER HERE!!! It took me 4 months to lose what you've lost in 3 1/2 so don't feel bad. It was slow at first but I'm almost 10 months out and I'm down 99 pounds!!! Only 30 more to go, hang in there it will come off.

I agree that age probably has something to do with it, especially when you have had a lifetime of dieting, losing, gaining over and over. That has to mess up your metabolism. I was 55 when I had my surgery earlier this year, but I'm not worried about how fast or slow I lose. Yes, I'm a little jealous of those who've lost 100 pounds in 3 months, but I'm proud to have lost 90 in 8 months and know that I'll get there eventually. Just relax and enjoy the journey, it'll come off when your body wants it to. Don't obsess over that scale. It's just a number.

I've know MANY people who have had this surgery. Everyone looses at different rates. One thing that may help you is to increase your daily exercises. Walking is the best.

I had surgery on 7/23/03. I have only lost 51 pounds. I feel worried all the time that I am never going to get to were I want to be. I have been on a plateau the last couple weeks and I feel like I won't lose any more weight. It is scary. I also know that my mind could be hindering my weight loss efforts because I think negatively. I know I have to BELIEVE that I will get to my goal weight someday for me to get there. That is so hard though! It does make me feel better to see that there are a lot of other people out there that is going through this too! Good Luck.

Hi Debbie, I do not think it is age. I am also 48 years young :) I had open rny 07/28/03 and have lost 80 pounds. I believe that each of us are different and will lose at our own rate. I eat protein first, low carbs and drink at least one whey protein shake a day. I eat 3 times a day and do not snack at all. I drink liquids all the time. (water has become my best friend) take my vitamins daily (centrum chewable) I walk every day and go to the gym at least 3 times a week. I go to see my primary doctor at least once a month, she would not agree to the WLS unless I came to her and she could follow my progress and keep track of my health monthly. (blood work sucks but must be to make sure I stay healthy) She is super and so supportive. But from what I seen from other friends who have had wls and read on this board you will lose at your own rate and learn to use your tool to your advantage. So don't stress just do what your doctor says and enjoy the ride...........May it be a sweet ride for you. DebbyB/IA

I'm losing very slowly. I've only lost 45 pounds and I am 7 months post op. I exercise 4-5 times a week, eat low carb and high protein. I've been stuck at 180 for about 2 months now. I've tried changing routines, diets, nothing seems to work. I'm worried my weight loss may be over. What if I stretched my stomach out? I eat 1/3 of what I used to eat. I still have 45 pounds to go!
