You are having your first plateau. I tell all the patients in our program that they will basically hit a brick wall sometime within the first 6 weeks. Your body is simply reacting to all the major changes - you've had a big surgery, you've DRASTICALLY reduced the fuel you're consuming, etc. and your body simply has to catch up. Your food choices look fine to me. I'd say just keep up the good work and in a few days your body will give up it's fight to hang on to the weight and the scale will start moving again. Congrats on a very good loss. Hang in there - I think you're doing GREAT!

I don't know what kind of surgery you had, but if you had an RNY, I'm kind of amazed that you can already eat 1/2 c. (4 oz.) I was only able to eat 1-2 oz. for the first few months, then slowly have gone upward about 1 oz./month until I reached about 8 oz. total. Are you sure you don't have a staple-line disruption or something?

Amy, I think you are doing fine....I was eating that much at 1 month, I dont think you have a staple line disruption or anything....(the previous poster told me the same thing when I posted one month post-op)....I am 2 1/2 months post op and eat between 600-900 calories a day with 60-90g of protein. I am down 50lbs. Some people on here still think that if you are eating solid food, you must be doing something wrong. You have to eat to live and youhave to eat to LOSE! Good Luck. (If all else fails, ask your dtr or your RD)

I agree with Heather and Rona...you're doing great, right on target, and there's nothing wrong with your eating. Don't let anyone scare you with comments about a staple line disruption. Just keep on doing what you're doing, and that plateau will break. It's all very normal.

Amy, I hit my first plateau from weeks 5-7 post-op. I know it's frustrating but be patient and it will pass. Soon you will feel great! :o)

I am 5 weeks post - op today and I only lost 2 pounds last week, the past 2 weeks before were 6 and the first week was 14! I am not too worried about it because I know more will come off. Don't fret! :o)

Amy, just wanted to let you know you're not alone. I'm 6 weeks post-op as of yesterday and I've only lost 28 lbs. It seems to be coming off pretty slow, and I am stepping on the scale everyday. But, even though I weigh everyday, I keep in mind that I'm not going to see a change everyday. Just remember that we do have a long way to go and don't get too caught up in the "I want the weight off yesterday" thinking. Good luck to you!!

i love to read these posts about how you "only" lost 25 pounds in 4 weeks. that is awesome. do you realize how much weight 25 pounds is and to lose it in 4 months? imagine carrying around 5 5-lb bags of sugar 24 hours a day, could you do it? NO!!! yet that's how much weight you've lost. keep up the excellent work...open rny 5-2-02 -97 1/2 pounds.

I lost 25 pounds the first month. I am now almost 5 months and I have lost 76 pounds. SOme people lose a ton in the first month, but it can slow quickly. Mine has been steady still. I usually go 2 weeks without losing anything and then I will lose like 10 pounds in 2 weeks. Dont be discouraged at all. It sounds like you're doing great!!

Amy, sounds like you are doing fine. At 4 weeks I had lost 32 pounds, only a few pounds more than you, and I started with a higher BMI. Now, at only 8.5 months post-op I am down 140 pounds and only about 15 to go before I reach my personal goal. Just keep eating your protein, drinking your water, getting exercise, and don't graze and you will see success. I think it's normal to get down and a little depressed at your stage. Best wishes and Congratulations!!!
