Question:
WEIRD story.. any feedback???

Hi! I am almost 6 weeks post op. I had LAP RNY on 2-19-03 and for about 4 weeks, I've been vomiting. Well, I finally had enough last week when I vomited for 5 hours over 1/2 of a scrambled egg! I called my Surgeon, went and saw him the next day, and he sent me for an Endoscopy. TURNS OUT I had 3 staples hanging off my stoma, which he removed, but from the inflammation it caused, I had to be dilated. I also have ulcerated areas from Reflux for I have to sprinkle Nexium into sf applesauce everynight. I had to stay overnight at the Hospital and be given fluids. Has ANYONE ever experienced this?? I had Reflux prior to surgery, so I'm thinking these areas must be from before? Any insight on that? Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm still confused on that and HOW staples can hang off your stoma! Thanks again! :)    — Deena C. (posted on March 30, 2003)

Hi Just to let you know that Charlotte Jones from Charleston, WV had the same thing happen to her. She is my friend but I can't give any details about her situation because I am not sure of the details. Check out her profile or e mail for more info. Good luck to you! It seems like everyone has someone who experienced similar experiences even though it may seem weird to you. It helps to know that we are not alone. God bless and happy losing!

Deena: I'm pre-op so I'm sorry I can't answer the stoma question. I had an endoscopy done as part of my pre-op testing (as I've had a lot of heartburn, use a lot of Tums, Pepcid, etc.). It was found I have a small hiatal hernia and gastritis, which is being treated with nexium. I've only been using it a week, and it's worked well. No Tums or Pepcid this week! It should be cleared up prior to surgery, so I'm glad this was dealt with pre-op. Good luck to you! I hope the nexium works as well for you as it has been for me.
