1-2 weeks post op I was never hungry. I had to remind myself to "eat". I kept a cup I got at the hospital which had ounces marked on it so I would count the cups I had to make sure I had a good fluid intake. I drank alot of Crystal light and water. The first 3 days my Doctor has us on clear liquids: broth, Sugar Free Ice Pops, strained egg drop soup. From the 4th day through 2 weeks we have creamy liquids. I had cream soups mostly. We could also have Sugar Free Puddings at that point. 2 tablespoons (eaten with a teaspoon) was about all I could eat at one sitting.

At that early stage I was eating: Cream of Rice w/ a little Splenda and Smart Control spread, SF Jello, SF Popcicles, Cottage Cheese, SF Applesauce, and Chicken Broth. When you switch to pureed food eat: 2 tbsp of protein, 2 tbsp fruit and/or vegetables (4 tbsp max per meal). Stop when you are full and measure. Can't stand Crystal Light so I found Turkey Hill SF Ice Tea which is the only drink besides chamomile tea and water that I can currently stomach.

I am eating 2 ounces per meal, 3X daily. I pick 1 ounce of protein (cheese, scrambled egg, cottage cheese, yogurt) & 1 ounce of starch (SF pudding, creamed soup, applesauce, CoCoWheats, Oatmeal, mashed potatoes). I keep them in disposable 1 ounce containers ready in the frig for when it's time to eat. I am 11 days post op. I drink SF Koolaid, Decaf tea, SF Lemonade, & some grape juice. I also make SF jello and use it as a liquid, along with SF popsicles.

At 1-2 weeks post-op, I was doing a protein drink (my doctor recommends Carnation Instant Breakfast w/skim milk 4 x a day). I was also allowed blenderized soups, cottage cheese, apple sauce, any canned fruit I wanted, blenderized with ice. Pretty bland, but it passed.

Hi, I am 1 week out from lap rny. Right now I eat 2 things at each meal..about 1/2-3/4 ounce of each. I have things like malt o meal and diet pudding for bkfst, cottage cheese and yogurt for lunch and broth and part of a sf popcycle for dinner. I have found I am not hungry (to the point of seriously not wanting to eat) so today I tried having my protein drink at bkfst and that helped. I have also tried watered down instant mashed potatoes, peanut butter on a ff cracker (could only eat about 2/3--this was on MY Dr. list of ok things.. it may not be for you) and because I was having loose bm's I had mashed banana a couple of times. He says ok to cream soups, chicken noodle soup (don't eat the chicken), & frozen yogurt as well as the things I mentioned I tried. I have also heard that refried beans are ok and will try in a week or two. Also my Dr. says we can try an egg at 1 week out and at 3 weeks some ground hamburger (chewed VERY well) and some tuna packed in water (also chewed well). Hope this helps a little.
