Question:
Is there a side effect of imsomina after the surgery

I have been expericing insomina for at least 8 months and it really beginning to get me down--should i go to the doctor about this? I am doing fine with everthing else except sleeping.    — Michele C. (posted on December 12, 2004)

I dont know if it has anything to do with surgery or not... But I will tell you "I" not have insomnia. I would call the Dr. I waited around before calling until I got sick. BUT I now take a med for it. And sleep pretty good MOST of the time.

Have you gone to a sleep disorders center and been diagnosed with Insomnia? I have it, it sucks...LOL! Have you been checked for Seasonal Affective Disorder? (Some folks suffer from that, it is when your Melatonin levels get messed up.) Here is a webpage about it... http://www.nmha.org/infoctr/factsheets/27.cfm

I have so much more energy now since I've lost 130 pounds that if I don't burn off energy during the day, I don't sleep right. So I make sure I exercise during the day. Also, pre-op, I used to eat my stress away. If I don't get some downtime from my job, I don't sleep well. I stress maybe keeping you up? Just suggestions -- I hope they help.

It could be anything, but I know from experience that if you don't get enought rest, it will make you sick. Try some "Sleep aid" over the counter. It is 50mg of diphenhydramine. (Unisom of Benadryl) This may work for you. If it doesn't go see your doc and have him give you a mild sleeping med. I take the Sleep aid each night for fibromyalgia and when I don't sleep I can't go the next day. Hope this helps...debbie

I remember when I was going through periods of rapid weightloss I would have problems sleeping. As the rapid weightloss declined, I was able to get to sleep faster and sleep more soundly....but I would always be a little exited if I had a problem falling asleep...I knew the scale would have something nice to report to me Sunday morning (when I would weigh). I'm not really sure why...I could speculate, but I'd probably be way off...best wishes with your weightloss journey! Kim open RNY 7/17/01 282/150/135

I don't know if insomnia is a side effect, but I have been dealing with it alot since I had my surgery, 9/27/04. I told the internist in my surgeon't office and he prescribed me Ambien. I helps me sleep, but I don't feel groggy the next day. I usually use it the night after I have had a problem. Stupid me waits until it is too late to get a decent night's sleep with interfering with the next night, by sleeping through the day. But it really does help. The over the counter stuff leaves me feeling soooo groggy the next day that I don't like it. I don't take Ambien unless I really need it. Not every day. Hope this helps. Sweet dreams!!!!!
