Question:
Extending Weight Loss

I am 16-months post op, am engaged in an intense weekly workout involving weight training and cardio, get in at least 64 oz. of water every day, still abide by the 4 oz. per meal w/ several small healthy snacks, and get my vits in but haven't lost a pound since Christmas. Am I done? I am 10 lbs from goal and would really like to cross that finish line. Any insight? Thanks.    — Kimberly L. A. (posted on February 12, 2004)

Kimberly, I am 9 months out and have only lost about 5 lbs since Christmas, and I'm 12 lbs from goal. Please give me an example of your daily intake... I have heard others say that our muscle building from intense exercise could be the culprit keeping those last 10 lbs on, even though you are converting from fat to heavier muscle and probably looking fabulous. That's what I hear. I'd really like to know your daily calorie intake so I can compare it with mine. I am exercising a lot too. Thanks!

Funny how I would find this question today! I was 1 year post op yesterday and have lost a total of 111 pounds. Ironic, since I had surgery on the 11th. lol My surgeon set my goal pre op to 135, upon seeing me yesterday she says I'm at goal now at 140. Because of my intense exercising weekly I have lost so many inches and toned to the point, that I look like I'd be in 120's. The dietican also pointed out exercising and weight training builds muscle and of course it weighs more. Hey, call me nuts, but I'd rather weigh 5-10 pounds more and look 10-20 pounds smaller because of the toning and muscles. I'd take muscles over sagging skin anyday! Good Luck!

Thanks for keeping your profile updated and good job on the weight loss and great exercise schedule and regiment! I noticed that you are a size 8 right now. I think that your body has just adjusted to where it is at. You are taking in the right amount of calories and burning the right amount of calories thru exercise to keep you where you are at. If you want to lose that last 10 you will have to shake things up a bit. Change what your eating, even if its to add more calories a day for a week or two, then pull back for a week or two. Change the exercise routine, do a different type of exercise, and perhaps one less session a week or add one more for a week (if possible!) The advise here is to shake things up. I had been where I thought I would end up for about 3 months when we decided to move. For a few weeks, I was packing, and lifting and just doing different things.. I lost 4 more pounds...How is your protein? Perhaps add a shake to your daily intake..and water, i would up it from 64 to at least 80-100 with your workout schedule, you just need more. Just keep in mind though that you have to maintain some day and the more you cut from your daily diet, the less you will be able to take in to maintain that lower weight. Is that something you can live with for life, or will you lose the 10 and eventually gain it back and then feel bad for doing so, when being a size 8, where you are at now, may be just fine for you.
