Question:
Can you wear acrylic nails when you are at the losing hair phase of recovery.

I am 5 weeks out of surgery and would like to get acrylic nails. Can I have them when I am in the hair loss, nail splitting phase of recovery? Has anyone else had acrylic nails the first year after surgery? As always, thanks.    — Denise M. (posted on December 19, 2001)

I am 6 months post-op from the VBG. I have acrylic nails. My doctor has never warned me against having them during any phase of my weightloss. I would ask you surgeon what his preference is. Good Luck to you!!!!! It is worth it.

Sure! I've never heard of anyone losing their finger nails after wls. (lol). The vast majority of the women in my support group have acrylics and no one's ever mentioned any problems. Actually. if your nails are weakned, I would think acrylics would be a benefit. My 80 year old mom and her friends all have acrylics for that very reason.
