Question:
I feel like I am slower than slow. I was hoping someone out there with

similar stats, could tell me how long it took to reach their goal, and what role exercise played in geting there. I am 11 weeks out. I started at 240 BMI of 40, and I have lost 32 pounds to date. I'm 38 years old,I always get my protein and water in and usually have 700 to 800 calories a day. I know we all want the scale to move faster, I just would like to know that I will eventually get "there". Thanks, Christi    — Christi W. (posted on July 2, 2002)

I started with a BMI of 43, weight 230, height 5'1". I had 100 pounds to lose to be at my goal. Sounds like you need to lose 100 pounds or less, too. 32 pounds at 11 weeks is FANTASTIC! Think about it: You are 1/3 of the way to your goal in less than three months! You will get there. You don't want to lose TOO fast cuz you will have saggy skin. I reached my top goal (27% body fat) at about 7 months and my current weight at about 10-11 months. Just keep doing what you are doing! BTW, I exercised for the first 4.5 months. After that family circumstances prevented me from exercising regularly. I think it is important and I am looking forward to returning to exercise in the next month or so. I have lost 100 pounds and (thankfully) don't need any reconstructive surgery--even wear sleeveless with pride!

Hi Christi, I really know what you mean. I'm also a very slow loser. It seems like every month I lose a lb. or 2 less than the month before. I am 5 months out and have only lost 50lbs. Exercise seems to help alot for me but what helps the most is to drink as much water as possible and to try to stay away from almost all carbs. It can make it really boring to eat but I'm hoping that losing more weight will make up for any boredom that I experience!! Good luck and keep me updated on your loss especially if you find the magic answer to our problem. Vicki Mize

Christi, Keep in mind that the less you have to lose, the slower the progress and total weight loss. You are considered a lightweight, and with that in mind, are doing quite well for less that 3 months. Just keep up the water, protein, less carbs and EXERCISE, and you will see a steady drop tempered by a few frustrating plateaus, which we all experience. I started with a BMI of 42, had 110 to lose to goal and at 5 months have lost 63.

Christi, you and I are almost twins!! I'm 39 years old and my start weight was 248. My BMI was 45. I had my surgery 11/5/01 and have lost 99 pounds so far. I lost abou 45 pounds in the first couple of months and then consistently lost 3 pounds a week for the next 3 months. The weight loss slowed down in April and has been going even slower now. But I'm only 15 pounds rom goal too. Exercise was VERY important. I walk on a treadmill 5 days a week for 20 to 30 minutes. It has DEFINATELY helped me and I would recommend it. You want to make sure you take in at LEAST 800 calories a day so it doesn't slow or stop your weight loss. That happened to me also. Good luck!!
