Question:
Does everyone experience hair loss?

Does everyone experience hair loss or do only a percentage of people have to deal with this? There's been alot of talk on this site about hair loss and it just seems like MOST lose alot of hair. This would never be a deal-breaker that stops me from getting surgery, but I have very long hair (to my waist) and will not want to cut it post-op. Just trying to mentally prepare and hoping I have a chance of not losing my hair, I guess.    — thumpiez (posted on September 4, 2002)

I had long hair, and it is now shoulder length. My hair is still falling out. I am 9 months out. I am getting blood work done to check my levels....not everyonew has hair loss like me. BUT, you may want to start looing for shorter do'sthat you might want to try...it will grow back, just not for a little while.

Christie, I'm somewhat a new post op, well 3 months post op and down 74 pounds, I begun loosing my hair within the 2nd month. I think it's a combination of the surgery and the stress on the body, My hair was rather long and thick, I have since cut it a little shorter. It's rather nice at this time, I can actually put it up in a clip and not have it hurt my head, (it was so heavy before) So at this point I'm enjoying it. I'm hoping the hair loss slows down though. I'm taking boitin 5mg 2 capsules per day.Hopefully that works......... I wish you all the luck

Most do suffer some hair loss-some more than others. It usually starts at around 3 months post-op and lasts for a few months. If you have really thick hair you may not notice, but for those of us that had thin hair to start...let's just say I got a really cute short doo to compensate. Others try special vitamins, biotin shampoos to help stop the loss etc, but personally, I think it just has to run its course. Keep in mind that no one has gone bald!

Hey there. I'm 6.5 months post op and down 105#. Just had to throw that in... I'm excited! Hair loss? Nope... still have what I started with... I did notice a few extra strands in the brush at about 3-4 months out, but even that's stopped!
