Question:
Besides being at goal for a tt, should I also wait until I'm done having babies?
I am 30 lbs from goal ( I had open rny 5 and a half months ago) and I will definately need a tummy tuck. I'm planning on getting pregnant in a year or so and was wondering if having a tt before pregnancy would be a waste of money. If anyone has had a tt before pregnancy, I'd love to hear about your experience and recommendations! Thanks to all of you. — Michelle B. (posted on November 17, 2002)

Hi there. I don't have 1st hand experience (yet) but I will share what my
Dr. recommended. I told him that we were planning on having one more child
when my weight stabalized, and he definately recommended holding off on
plastic surgery (abdomen) until after that.

No experience here either, but friends say that if you wait until another
pregnancy for the TT, you'll have a VERY high risk of hernias. The
abdominal wall is weak enough from the weight (and, in my case weight +
past pregnancies while MO). I've even heard of multiple hernias if those
muscles aren't fixed. However, it probably depends on your size to begin
with and the condition of your abdomen. My OB/GYN also said that a
c-section would be VERY hard to do with all that extra skin. At the very
least, I would get more than one opinion. Good Luck!

Hi there, (JMO)..with any surgery your body needs time to heal, I beleive
that if you plan on having children, you should do it before having another
surgery or wait enough time after that surgery before becoming pregnant or
doing anything drastic to your body. My friend had a baby after a tt
pretty much about 2 yrs later I asked her how her tummy was and she said
she had a little pouch her baby is over a year old so I am assuming that if
you want a flat tummy you mite want to wait till after u have ur baby to
have the tt ....

Our local support group just had a plastic surgeon as a speeker last week
and that question was brought up and his answer was if your going to have
more babies you should wait till your done having babies cause your just
going to stretch (sp) your skin out again and will probably need another tt
to get the look your wanting. Hope this helps
