Question:
strange sounds when drinking???
I have been having trouble getting in enough water. I was never a real thirsty person before surgery. Now sometimes it is a bit uncomfortable. Sometimes my throat, esophagus or stomach makes these strange growling noises. I dont exactly know where it is coming from or what it is. Sounds kind of like burps, but not a regular burp. I have tried different drinks and different temperatures. I just dont know why or what it is. Has anyone else had this? I was just curious. I am 5 weeks out from surgery, but have had not problems but with drinking. Thanks for all the help I have gotten here. — sandyh (posted on September 30, 2003)

I am 7 1/2 weeks post-op and i have the same burbs when I drink, and now
when I am full from eating. Someone told me that is good because it means
your tummy is tight. The gurgling noise and feeling is the air being
released from your tummy as the water goes through. I now have the same
gurgling when I start to get to full when I am eating. If it continues,
ask your surgeon about the gurgling.

Hi there. You can read in my profile that I also had the 'growlies' for a
while post-op. It's just a temporary (usually) side effect of your new
plumbing and the air displacement when you drink. A few times I had to
take Gas X when it got really bad, but it went away after about 2 months.

It's a normal occurance...My pouch noises started to lessen at about 2 1/2
months out.

I totally understand!! I get the same gurgling (my husband laughs at me
sometimes). I am 2 1/2 months postop. I have a hard time drinking at times
- it feels like my throat is too tight. After reading what others have
wrote I guess it is normal and will go away.

Sandy, I hate to tell you this but I'm almost 2 years out and my stomach
makes so much noise after I drink that people can hear it across the table
form me. We all laugh about it in my house but I doubt it will ever go
away. In the grand scheme of things it's a small price to pay for good
health and a great quality of life. Good luck to you! - Mike

I have the same thing. I am 18 months post and I still have dinosaurs in
my belly! I am forever making people laugh because of the noises I make.
They were louder earlier post op but they are still there.
