Question:
How many carbs per day/per meal should we be eating post op?
Good evening! I am 2 months post-op, I had an open rny. I am wondering how many carbs one should have either at each meal or per day. I understand that pasta and bread are simple carbs and are easily turned to sugar and that carbs found in fruit and veggies are complex carbs and are good for us. I am just confused as to how many we should have for good weight loss. Also, how many fat grams per day? I usually stay between 20 and 25. Thank you very much for your suggestions. :-) — Mary B. My nutritionist recommended no more than 40% carbs per meal. Eat protein
first, then veggies and carbs last.

Hi - I am 5 months post-op and have lost a bit over 100 pounds. I have
found what works for me best is a formula of double the carb and half the
fats of the protein I do daily. So if you do 60 grams of protein a day you
can have 120 grams of carbs and 30 grams of fat that day. Of coarse I
don't keep a strict count of it all as I am trying to be "normal"
but if one day I know I ate to much fat or carbs the next day I go less
with them and more with the protein. I think the things that help me the
most is that I take my vitamins and minerals daily, drink plenty of water
and keep patting myself on the back for trying to get healthy!! I also
will not step on the scale to often. Once a week or every 10 days is
plenty.
