Question:
Has anyone had a plateua for over 4 months?

Has anyone experienced this long of a plateau with exercising and weight training included. I went to my nutritionist and made complete food diaries for 4 weeks. Writing down everything that went into my mouth. She looked a few days over and she stated that I was eating about 1100 a day. In that four week time I actually gained 2 pounds. I was mortified. I felt really bummed. So now we ran some more blood test to see if there is anything not in working order. I have notice one thing is that My body feels like it is in a box. I mean like something is holding on to whatever it is. Like I am frozen in space. When you are losing one feels thinner all the time. I feel not like that at all. My doctor may believe that my meds are reacting to me. Two years ago I went on a medical fast and when I got to about the same weight as I am now. I started to go back up very fast. and that was with dieting and exercising. Very puzzled!!!! and bothered. If anyone has experienced a situation like this one or has any comments let me know. You don't say how long ago you had surgery. It sounds like you are doing the right thing by talking with your doctor and his staff. Why don't you give us a little more information on your type of surgery and when you had it? I couldn't find much in your profile

Keep in mind that weight training will cause your muscles to become more dense, hence you may gain weight, albeit good weight. If you are extremely concerned, continue to exercise, but hold off on the weight training until you are closer to goal. Best of luck to you!!!...Karen (lap rny- 9/20/02, down 100 pounds!)

I agree with Barbara that we need more info. How far out are you? Are you getting in enough protein? Do you eat frequently to fuel the body or just 1 meal a day? Are you transected? a 4 month plateau when you are under a year post-op is very unusual, if you are 18 months to 2 years or more, it is not.

1100 calories a day is not a whole lot for a guy and you look to be about a year out. Are you still losing inches? If so, the gains may be muscle. The goal is to be thinner and healthier, not to weigh less. Muscle weight is GOOD! If you are not losing weight OR inches, you might try eating MORE. I know, I know it sounds crazy. BUT your body may need more than you are actually taking in especially if you are exercising a lot. Try high protein minimeals every few hours and limit your carbs. And of course drink plenty of water. It may kick your metabolism up a notch and get things moving again. I know that I went thru a period where my body needed more food. I ate every two hours for about a month then things quieted down and I started dropping weight again. Hope this helps!
