Question:

My goal is 145. At 3 months post I am down 65 lbs and labs are great. Is my goal realistic? Please share your success with me. Wendy    — Wendy H. (posted on February 9, 2003)

Wendy, I hope that's a realistic goal. I'm having surgery next week, starting at 5'6" and 255. I'm shooting for the 140's and then hopefully a TT that will get me a few extra pounds off. Good luck. You are doing great!!

If you check out the before and after photos, you see that it has become a reality for others, so why not you? So, why not me?? :) I am 265 and hoping to reach 140. I haven't been 140 since I was a teenager. Wishing you and I God's speed*

I'm 5'7" and weighed 260 when I had the duodenal switch on 6/5/02. I am now about 150-155 and wear a size 10. I'm not sure where I'll end up, but I'm happy with my results!

I hope your goal is realistic, because it's very close to mine! I'm almost 4 months post op. Started at 240, 5'6 1/2 and I've lost 65 pounds. My goal is 140.

I started at 248, 5'5" and had surgery on June 10, 2002. I'm now at 134 after eight months, 114 pounds lost! Keep up the good work and you will definitely reach your goal!

I am pretty close to you. I am 5'8" and had a start out of 268 wearing a size 24. My goal was 160 and I wanted to wear a size 16, 14 if I really dreamed. I hit goal and a size six in under six months. Now at 9 months post op I am a size 4 and have lost more than 120 pounds. So 145 is definitely not unrealistic. That is about what I am right now. It's strange though in high school I weighed 160 at one point and I wore an 11. I hear so many post ops say the same thing. They weigh more but wear a much smaller size.

Wendy, I'm 5'6 and started at 271. After 9 1/2 months I'm down 115 lbs. I currently weigh 154 and 140-145 is my goal. I don't think it is unrealistic at all, it will happen if you stick to the rules. You can do it!

I started out at 260 and 5'6.5". In about 10 months I blew right past my goal of 150 and ended up at 124! I also ended up 5'8" tall -- I guess I was hunched over before with arthritis. It's been great. I will be 4 years out in September. hugs, Ann rny 9/10/99 260/124

Hi, Wendy. Sounds like we were about the same. I was 5'6" and weighed 258 lbs. I had my lap rny on 9/27/01. I had a realistic goal from my dr. of 154, and my personal goal was 146. Now, 16 mos. later, I am at 149, very close to my goal, and I feel great! Don't get discouraged if your weight slows down, since you don't have as much to lose, it will happen. I just know you will do great. E-mail me anytime if you would like, if I can help/ Patti Meadows/ e-mail: [email protected]

You can look at my profile, I started out at 5'6" and 265. I got down to 145, but then had a breast lift and implants and gained about 5 pounds. I have lost 1 0r 2 of that again. I would like to get to about 140.

Wendy, I was 259 and 5'6 when I had my surgery on 11/11/02. I'm only down 55lbs - I've been bad about exercising the last 2 wks tho (too many snow days for my kids!). I am finding out how much my brain plays in my weight probs too - I feel like I'm constantly eating! Anyhoo - it sounds like you are doing great - and no, your goal is not unrealistic - keep up the good work! Anne F, bpd/ds, Dr. Husted

Hi Wendy, Pretty close, I was and still am 5'7" and was 270 lbs the day of my operation 2/25/02, now it's 11&1/2 months later and I'm 139 lbs I'm shooting for 130/135 and I've never been this small in my adult life. So you see with WLS dreams do come true, however even if you loose "just" a 100 lbs or so who is going to complain????

Hi Wendy, I am also 5'6, started alittle higher at 289, at 18 mos I have maintained my weight of 145. I had to increase my eating to completely stop the WL. I am very happy at this wight and do not want to get any smaller. I weigh 1 pound more than I have lost. I was a slow loser, but achieved my goal and am as happy as I can be.Good Luck.

Hi, I too was a 'lightweight' and started out at 254 lbs. at 5'5". I am now almost 18 months out, weigh between 147 and 151, and wear a size 10, sometimes a size 8, (sometimes a 12 depending on manufacturer). I'm delighted with where I am. Your goal is realistic as long as you keep in mind we are all different. Good luck!

I'm 5'6" and started at 263.5 I had my open RNY 6 weeks ago, 1/2/03. As of this morning I'm at 244. This is going alot slower than I thought it would but at least it's going down and there is no way I've lost 19 lbs. in 6 weeks with any diet in the past. My goal is 145 and a size 32 Levi!!

Wendy, you are definately not being unreasonable. I started out at 5'5 253 lbs and had a personal goal of 150, my surgeons goal was 135 and I surpassed them both. I am now 15 months post op from an open RNY and have lost a total of 135 lbs and weigh in right at 120 lbs, wear a size 5/6 clothing and feel like a whole different person. I done NOTHING special to reach this goal and I don't exercise (I do work 3 jobs if you want to consider that exercise haha). I do drink nothing but water, and I think that is a big factor. Good luck on your loss and don't be afraid to have that "Push the limits" Goal, it gives you something to try for :)
