Question:
Has anyone ever been diagnosed with Hidrandenitis Suppurativa and did WLS help ?

I am SICK of this insidious disease. They all say it has nothing to do with weight or hormones. I say BS...... I have a cyst on my thigh right now and the redness extends 4" in diameter. Will WLS help resolve this problem? Thanks!    — MLambert (posted on March 13, 2003)

Could you tell us a little more about this disease. I wish you the best.

I too have stuggled with this. I had lap rny Aug'02. I found when I reached the weight I was at when I had my first outbreak in high school, it flared up with a vengeance. I have found if I keep the stress to a minimum, get plenty of rest, and be extremely vigilent with vitamins and the antibiotics. It is not so painful. I surfed the web for more info and was amazed by the number of people who have to deal with this difficult disease. Now that I have gotten under my high school weight it has gotten a bit better. I keep liquid Lever 2000 with me at all times as I read it helps heal and cuts done on the smell.

Hi, I've not been officially diagnosed with HS, but I believe that's what I've had. I've had knots, bumps, cysts, boils, whatever you want to call them between my legs and upper thighs since puberty. I had lap RNY on 08/15/02 (-82lbs) and I've still had several large cysts come up on my inner thighs and in the crease of my legs where your body trunk meets. They haven't been as red and painful, but still lots of infection. The smaller, acne looking bumps are gone though. My inner legs look lighter colored now also. I'm hoping that as I lose more (I want to lose about 30lbs more to get to 188 or so) that these will not keep coming back. I think eating a low fat, low sugar diet has helped along with losing the weight. Good luck to you! Melisa

I have noticed considerable improvement with the HS after the WLS... I will occasionally get one- but nothing like before surgery.
