Question:
Laid Off! Will new insurance cover plastic surgery??

I was just laid off yesterday (I saw it coming, though). My question is this: Will new insurance (when I get a new job) cover plastic surgery? I am 3 months post-op and am obviously not in a position to maintain COBRA payments for too long just to have plastic surgery? What should I do? Has anyone else had one insurer cover WLS and another one cover plastic surgery?    — LaRayne H. (posted on June 25, 2002)

If you do not let your coverage lapse, then you are protected against "pre-existing" conditions, so make sure you do not let it lapse. However, there is absolutely no guaruntee that any insurance will cover plastic surgery. When you get your new job, if there are multiple plans, make sure you enroll in whichever views plastic surgery more favorably. At any rate, with the fact that you're so recent post-op, the MOST important thing is not to let your coverage lapse even for a week!!! This will protect you in case any problems develop, and will provide legal protection from pre-existing conditions clauses.
