Question:
Question for the ladies......

Hi all. I had open RNY on 6/12/02. I got my period on the 15th of June. Then, I did not have one in July and have no signs of one coming this month either. I took about 3 home PG tests and all were negative. What's going on? Could I be pregnant with the test turning out negative? (it was generic brand I must say!) Thanks!    — emilyfink (posted on August 12, 2002)

hi there its not usual to have a false negative result but its possible its even possible to have a false positive if you have such conditions as pcos i have pcos and a preg test on the back warned that certain med conditions could show postive false results a tubal could show up as a negative result too but honestly id say its the surgery doing this after surgery i got my cycle way too early and it lasted alot longer than usual they were wacky for a few months now all is normal my cousin and friend had wls as well and both have gone through the same thing its the hormones im sure of it as we are going through rapid weight loss our estrogen levels go crazy this is probably why we have wacky cycles and emotional days too best of luck to you hope this helped :)

I just wanted to let you know that anesthesia can cause your period to be wacky. Not to mention that you body is going through some major changes right now. It may or may not be this, but either way, I would contact your gynocologist just to be on the safe side. Congrats on your surgery!!

I had my surgery on June 18th and got my period a few days later, right on schedule. However, my next period was several weeks late and quite heavy. The stress of surgery and the hormonal changes that result from rapid weight loss are bound to mess up our cycles a little bit at the beginning. I wouldn't worry!

To start with, let me take my hat off to you if you actually had sex within two months of an open RNY. Secondly, home pregnancy tests can give you false positives and false negatives. Get to your OB/GYN for a blood test to be sure. And, there are many other medical conditions that stop or delay our periods. You may need to be checked for one of them too!

I had my surgery on 3/5/02 and my periods have been screwed up ever since. I didn't get one for several weeks after the surgery and now it comes anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks later. If you think there might be a chance you're pregnant, get a blood test. If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Your body has been through quite a shock and it's just trying to catch up.

It is not likely pregnancy. With weight loss and trauma, often comes hormonal changes. You have had both. You should mention this to your doctor, but most likely everything will level out eventually, if you were anywhere near regular before surgery. Best of luck to you.
