Question:
I think I might be pregnant

I am a week pregnant for my period and I am 22 months post op. I have purchased a home pregnancy test, but I was wondering is there were any special considerations to using the home test because of my surgery. I drink a lot of water and it goes through me pretty fast so I am worried that the HCG concentration might be too low to register on the test. I see no signs of my friend comming soon. No bloating, no cramping, no weight gain, and my breasts are tender like they were the last time I was pregnant. I just want to know how is the best way to take the test to get the most accurate results. Any post ops gone through this? I could use any advice. I am currently unemployed and can't afford a doctor's blood test. Thanks in advance for your answers.    — enjo4 (posted on August 15, 2002)

I would look for the nearest Planned Parenthood. They will do this test free, and they also do prenatal care and OB/GYN things for fee. They also do regular medical. They just ask you for a donation if you can afford one.

Erin, you could also try your first morning urine, since that has the highest concentration of HCG. I believe the box suggests you do that anyway (or atleast some of them do). Good luck.

You should be fine. The HCG collects with the urine in your bladder, which hasn't been altered by your surgery. Using morning urine might make the second line of the test a little darker, but if you're already 1 week late you should be able to take the test anytime and get an accurate result.
