Question:
Anyone else NOT sleeping post-op or ever experienced this? HELP!!

I am 9 wks post-op after a LAP Rny and then an Open RNY to repair a leak. I have NOT been sleeping for the past 2 weeks. I only seem to get about 2-3 hours a night. I lay awake for about 3 hours before I am able to fall asleep. I have been off pain meds for quite sometime now. I am about to return to work in about 10 days and worried I will be a zombie. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!! I am getting desperate! Thanks!    — Carrie B. (posted on August 17, 2002)

The same thing happened to me - I lived a 24 hour day - sleeping 2 hours and up again for a few hours etc. After a couple of weeks this changed to 3 hours sleep and then 4- and finally after about a month was back to normal. I was pretty goofy during this period. Guess I could have called the Dr. - but decided to wait it out. Charlene Mai

Same thing happened to me. Tell your surgeon. We all need sleep to help us heal. He should be able to give you something. I took RESTORIL for about a month and was fine after the prescription was gone.

ME TOO! Whoever said eating so little would make folks tired was WRONG! I had unbeliveable energy after surgery but this went away after about a month. If you cant sleep after 20 minutes. get up and do anything! Laying in bed awake just makes things worse. Read, update your profile, clean the house:) Anything but laying in bed. It goes away, and you might try creating a BUSY DAY, Lots of exercise, no rest AT ALL! HUSTLE ALL DAY, then dont go to bed till its late and your really tired. This woorked for me and returning to work full time and quit taking it easy cause I had surgery is likely why the problem went away!! Part of my problem was I couldnt sleep because I was planning my post op life. Going on a cruise, feeling better etc. Having done these its GREAT but dont loose sleep planning, their day will come...

I had this problem for about 3 weeks after surgery, I ended up taking 2 tylenol pm. I was then able to get the much needed rest, to recover. I used the gel capsule and had no problem getting them down.
