Doomed? How do you figure Latisha? 80 something pounds gone in 8 months? Sounds great to me! Have you ever lost that much weight that fast before with the promise of keeping it off? Be happy!

All I can say my dear is hang in there with me...I think we are just about the same. I had surgery 4 days before you did and I have been at an stand still on the scale now for over 4 weeks...even up and down a lb or 2. I really want to get down into the 220s. I am stuck at 256 more or less and I do not want to settle for this weight. I know that I am eating more now...but I am enjoying not having to throw up as much as I use to. I also have been staying far away from any exercise to speak of. Never in my life have I ever maintained a good exercise routine for a long period of time. I bought a new treadmill 2 months ago and there it sits only used once. The 1st 5 months were magical the weight peeled itself off...now I just dont know where I will end up. I know what I can do to make a difference but I was never able to do it with any other diet so I dont know if I can now. I'm being dead honest here. I hope I'm not discouraging you, I just wanted you to know you're not the only one. I hope the scale starts moving for you.

Excuse me....but there is no "promise" or gaurantee that we will keep this weight off. It can be very dangerous to think that way. 80 lbs gone is a great accomplishment in and of itself...you look better...your health is much improved...but if we fall back into old habits...you can reverse the great improvements that you have made...if you lose sight of your goals...you may not reach them. So celebrate your current success and use it as a catalyst to push yourself forward...whether that be more weight loss...weight maintenance...or a challenge to increase your exercise....to thine own self be true!

Are you eating protein first? Still drinking your required fluids? Are you exercising for 30 minutes each day? If so, you should continue to loose. If you have added carbs, it will slow you down. Loose the carbs, step up the protein and drink plenty of fluids. You should continue to loose for the first year and a half- after that it will slow down. No doubt you are able to eat more now and this has slowed down your progress. Try to concentrate on mostly protein. Hope this helps. I know how frustrating it can be.

Latisha, you and I are at around 8 months post-op, and I would say no, we are not finished yet. It was bound to slow down though. The first 6 months or so is effortless, but when they say tool, well, now we have to work our tool. This means watching the carbs, and EXERCISING. I have found that when I am consistent with the exercise, the weight loss continues, and when I am not, it slows considerably. They, we have to deal with plateaus. And it will happen..just stay the course, vitamins, lots of water, protein and exercise. It will pick up again. I'm happy if I continue to lose 5 a month!

Hi! I have not yet had my surgery, scheduled for Dec. 3rd, so I hope you don't think I'm butting in, but I'd like to try to make you feel better! First of all, congratulations on the 80pds you have already lost!!! That's really great! I do go to two different support groups and have been since Feb. There are folks in my groups who have had slow downs, even stand stills in their weight loss as early as 1 and 2 months after surgery! BUT they always pick back up and continue to lose! I think that the advice about exercize is right on though, that has to take place at some point or it won't work! So don't get too frustrated, you'll have more loss I think! Good luck to you!!! Hi Latisha, LOVE YOUR PROFILE!!!! You have got to email me if you or someone else did it--I want them to update mine. Now, back to the subject at hand, I had surgery 21 days before you but a totally different surgery--I had open VBG on 2/5/02--your weight loss is so close to mine it is almost like a mirror--I started at 278lbs and have lost a total of 86lbs so far--my last 2 month loss was 3.5 both months and this month have lost 2lbs already--I stayed on a plateau from 8/12/02 till 9/30 then only 2 more pounds, I exercise 4-5times a week and I really don't monitor fat grams or calories--I just make sure that I get my total protein in of greater than 60 on anyday--We had different surgery but similiar progress, I am just keeping the faith that I will continue to lose but also I had to step up my exercise routine to 45 min instead of my usual 30min that was the only change that I made. Just keep smiling and look for one thing that you can change --just one so that it won't be so overwhelming, maybe it is calories in the day or your exercise or water--something so small can make a whole lot of difference. Smile and keep up the good work--Celebrate YOU!!!!

Your right Rosemary - I was thinking out loud when I wrote "with the promise of keeping it off". I made that promise to myself and plan to keep it. It is definately possible to out eat this surgery. Sorry about the confusion :-)
